Campagnolo finally launches a power meter
Campagnolo has launched its first power meter. The new HPPM power meter is compatible with the Super Record Wireless groupset and offers the same 50/34t, 48/32t and 45/29t chainring combos as the standard crankset.
The power meter spider incorporates 16 strain gauges, which along with a 5ms sampling rate, Campagnolo says, leads to +/-1 percent accuracy. The internal battery has a claimed runtime of over 5 weeks on a charge. The Campagnolo HPPM power meter is priced at $2,449 / €2,240.

First Campagnolo power meter
A power meter is now pretty much an essential for many riders. Although there are plenty of aftermarket crank and pedal-based power meters available, both SRAM and Shimano have an in-series power meter option in their higher spec groupsets (and SRAM for all its AXS electronic groupset tiers), so until now Campagnolo has been the odd one out of the major road bike groupset makers.
The new Campagnolo HPPM (for high precision power measurement) power meter is an optional extra as part of the top tier Super Record Wireless groupset. As such, it’s compatible with the smaller chainrings that this groupset uses, which are paired with cassettes which start with 10-tooth sprockets.
You can choose between 50/34t, 48/32t and 45/29t chainrings, the same configurations as for the uninstrumented crankset. Crank arms lengths available are 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm.
While many power meters make do with just three or four strain gauges, the Super Record power meter incorporates 16 strain gauges in the right side crank arm spider. Along with an internal gyroscope to measure cadence, Campagnolo says that these provide accuracy of +/-1%, with a maximum power of 4,000 watts. The sampling rate of 5ms also contributes to the high claimed accuracy.
The power meter crankset is hollow carbon and the power meter includes a titanium axle and USB ceramic bearings. The claimed weight is 656g for a 45/29t crankset with 172.5mm crank arms, including all the hardware and bearings. Q Factor is 148mm and bolt circle diameter 121/88mm.
The internal battery is recharged using the same charging port design as for other components of the Super Record Wireless groupset. Campagnolo claims a full charge will last over five weeks if you’re covering 500km a week, with a full recharge in 3.75 hours.
The battery is designed to be serviceable and replaceable and the Super Record power meter is self-calibrating over a wide temperature range and is IP67 waterproof. It transmits over both BLE and ANT+ protocols and there’s full compatibility with the My Campy 3.0 app for calibration and to check the battery status.
The Campagnolo Super Record HPPM power meter crankset is priced at $2,449 / €2,240.
