New Ribble Allroad bikes are aero-optimised and offer up to 38mm tyre clearance
CyclistNew Ribble Allroad bikes are aero-optimised and offer up to 38mm tyre clearanceRibble has launched a new range of Allroad SL carbon bikes, headlined by the Allroad SL R, which includes aero features and offers 38mm tyre clearance. Prices start at 2,999 and Ribble claims a 7.5kg weight for the top spec 8,299 Hero build in size M, equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace and Zipp 353 NSW wheels. The Ribble Allroad SL offers a more affordable option. Its frame is based on the Endurance SL and is slightly less aero-optimised with a little less tyre clearance at 35mm. Its available in stock builds with prices starting at 1,699. The highest-spec 2,999 Pro build has an 8.8kg claimed weight and is equipped with Shimano 105 Di2 and Mavic Cosmic S carbon wheels. Finally, theres an electric opinion, the Ribble Allroad SL R e. Its powered by the lightweight Mahle eBikemotion X20 drive system and has a claimed weight as low as 11.8kg and a range of up to 140km. Prices start at 3,999 and head up to 8,499 for the Hero build. As usual, Ribble offers online spec configuration and custom colour options across the range, with over a million colour combinations possible.Road+ bike rangeRibble describes the Allroad as a road+ bike. Its designed to be efficient and comfortable when ridden on tarmac, but with the capability to handle off-road excursions. The tyre clearance drops to a still-considerable 35mm if you fit mudguards on the hidden mounts and Ribble delivers a rack converter, so that you can fit the Allroad for load-lugging should you wish. Many of the Allroad SL Rs features are developed from the Ribble Ultra Road aero road race bike. That includes the aero tube profiles and seatpost, with a waisted head tube and a wider bulge in the down tube, similar to that of the Pinarello Dogma F, which improves aerodynamics around the bottle cages. The Allroad SL R and SL R e are fitted with the Ultra Bar Second Generation (UB2) handlebars, which incorporate the same patented airflow-tripping wake generator design as the Ultras. A separate bar and stem, rather than the Ultras one-piece design, ensure adjustability and theres full internal cable routing. While the Ultra bar can be used without bar tape, Ribble will tape the bars on all of its bikes when sold. Bar widths increase from 34/38cm up to 40/44cm. For both pairs of figures, the former is for the tops, the latter for the drops; as with modern bikes like the Trek Madone the bars flare significantly, putting you in a more aero position on the tops but adding control when in the drops. Ribbles bike builder allows you to spec narrower bars if youre looking for extra aero benefits. At the same time, Ribble has relaxed the Allroads geometry, saying that this makes it comfortable for all-day riding and for taking on mixed terrain. The Allroad SL R and SL R e use a mix of high spec Toray T1000 and M46 carbon fibre, similar to that used in premium bikes such as the new Wilier Verticale, helping to lower the frame weight. In the SL R, theres also down tube internal frame storage. This is becoming a popular addition to more endurance-focussed road bikes including the Canyon Endurace and also in many of the best gravel bikes. Ribble has worked with Restrap to develop the integrated Rifft tool kit, which can be ordered with the tools to fix many roadside problems, including a tubeless repair kit and even a mini pump. You can fit Ribbles aero-optimised bottle cages, which abut the frame along their length for better aerodynamics and are shielded from the airflow by the broadened down tube, offering extra free speed over riding the bike without bottles and cages.
