- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMEurobike 2024 | Giant's prototype carbon balance bike, the worlds first carbon-neutral tyre, ZF's entry to the cycling market and more from day threeOur dogs are barking after three days of traipsing through Eurobikes expansive halls but our resolve to bring you the hottest tech from the worlds biggest cycling show remains steadfast. In our final roundup from the show, were pleased to bring you a whopping 14 new, weird and wonderful tech highlights from manufacturers big and small. And if that isnt quite enough, check out our roundups from days one and two.Exposure debuts Mesh technologyMesh-equipped lights can communicate with other Exposure lights. - Jack Luke / Our MediaExposure Reflex-equipped mountain bike lights use highly sensitive thermisters and accelerometers to control light output.Working in conjunction, these detect small dips in ambient temperature and movement.A drop in ambient temperature alongside fast movement suggests a rider is riding fast on technical terrain. If it detects this, the light increases power to help light the way.Conversely, an increase in ambient temperature and reduction in movement signals the rider has likely stopped. Light power will then decrease.Smaller helmet-mounted lights, such as the Zenith, can pair with bigger models. - Jack Luke / Our MediaWhile effective, this tech is bulky, so its limited to Exposures bar-mounted lights.Exposures new Mesh technology enables larger Reflex-equipped lights to communicate with its lighter helmet lights, adjusting their power in tandem with the bar-mounted light. This, Exposure says, increases overall power, as the lights can be run at higher power for short periods something that wouldnt be possible with manual control as it risks burning out the LED if run at high power for extended periods.USE brings Vybe suspension stem to marketThe Vybe complements USE's longstanding suspension seatpost. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe Vybe suspension stem joins USEs long-standing suspension seatpost of the same name.Designed primarily for gravel riders, the Vybe ships with four different elastomers.Elastomers and preload screws can be adjusted to suit. - Jack Luke / Our MediaRider weight should be used as the initial starting point when selecting these. Further adjustment can be made via two preload adjusters. These screws can be adjusted to alter the stems angle by approximately 7 or 8 degrees.Abuss indicator-equipped Hyp-E helmetThe Hyp-E has a slightly appealing Robocop-like quality to it. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe Abus Hyp-E is a fully-featured urban helmet designed primarily for e-bike riders. The helmet features a removable visor, brake and indicator lights, adjustable vents and optional ear covers. The indicators are actuated via a handlebar-mounted remote. The optional brake light is activated by a sensor that slips onto a brake lever. The helmet is NTA-certified (a higher level of helmet safety certification for electric bike riders).Though less frequently seen in the UK and US, Abus says it has seen significant uptake of visor-equipped electric bike helmets in France and elsewhere in continental Europe.Enduos longevity-boosting skip tooth chainringEnduo claims its new chainring can substantially reduce wear. - Jack Luke / Our MediaEnduo claims its skip tooth chainring improves drivetrain efficiency or longevity depending on whether its tooth profile is designed to engage with a chains inner or outer plates. The pictured chainring is designed to extend longevity, with the narrow-wide-like teeth meshing tightly with the outer plate rollers of a chain. Its designed to fit existing mountain bike, eMTB or gravel bike cranks, though this design is only compatible with singlespeed chains (and, by extension, hub gear-equipped bikes).Enduo claims its testing has shown the chainring can last up to 12,000km up from 4,000km compared to an unspecified competitor chainring.Enduo hasnt tested the chainring design on multi-gear drivetrains. The brand expects the chainring will be available towards the end of this year, with pricing TBC. However, Enduo says its long-term goal is to license its technology to existing drivetrain manufacturers.Prologos unusual carved-out Tgale TT saddleThe scooped-out rear section is retained to comply with UCI rules. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe new Prologo Tgale TT saddle has been designed with feedback from Fillipo Ganna and Josh Tarling two of the worlds most successful time triallers. The new saddle features an unusual dipped rear end.Prologo says this section of the saddle is not truly necessary, as time trial riders spend next to no time on the rear of the saddle. However, the saddle must be a certain shape to conform with UCI rules.Berks super light Lupina Monocoque saddleAt the other end of the saddle spectrum is the Berk Lupina. - Nick Clark / Our MediaSlovenian carbon composite brand, Berk displayed has its recently-released Lupina Monocoque saddle on display. This integrates the rails directly into the saddle. The rails meet the wings at the rear of the saddle. - NorthwaveThe saddle gives off big next-generation jet fighter vibes, especially in the ultralight pad-free model. With padding, Berk says the saddle tops the scales at 119g.Due to its lightweight design, the brand has given a maximum rider weight of 100kg.Fiziks 3D-printed Aeris Adaptive TT saddlesThe Aeris is designed for TT or triathlon riders. - Stan Portus / Our MediaFizik launched its 3D-printed Aeris Adaptive time trial saddle at Eurobike. The saddle is available in two models. The long-distance version has a 55mm-wide split nose for pressure relief and stability, while the short-distance version is 45mm wide with a more conventional cutout. The extension on the rear of the saddle is designed to accept a bottle cage.Fizik says the Aeris has a flatter surface than its other 3D-printed saddles, such as the Argo Adaptive, to spread pressure evenly. For triathletes, the Aeris comes with a link to integrate a bottle cage at the back of the saddle. Fizik says this angles the bottle for easy mounting and dismounting in transition zones. The Aeris Adaptive is available with metal or carbon rails, costing 299.99 / $299.99 and 259.99 / $259 respectively.Aerons European-manufactured TPU AirTubesAeron manufacturers its tubes in Europe. - Stan Portus / Our MediaAeron is a new TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) inner tube brand owned by RTi Sports.Aeron says its AirTubes are lighter, stronger, faster and more sustainable than conventional butyl inner tubes. The brand produces tubes for all cycling disciplines. - Stan Portus / Our MediaAeron makes tubes for all disciplines, including city riding. The European production also means the brand can keep the price to 25.It offers tubes in different thicknesses across all disciplines, with the thicker tubes providing greater puncture protection and the thinner tubes providing weight savings. In terms of puncture protection, Aeron says its Superlight race inner tubes offer a similar level of protection as butyl tubes. The worlds first carbon-neutral tyreReTyre uses unconventional methods to manufacture its tyres. - Stan Portus / Our MediaMany brands now aim to make their tyres more environmentally friendly, including Hutchinson, who launched the Touareg Green at Eurobike. But the Norwegian company ReTyre claims to have produced the worlds first carbon-neutral tyre.ReTyre says it doesnt use anything youd find in conventional tyre manufacturing such as vulcanisation but it does look to other industries for manufacturing techniques, such as injection moulding. The tyre uses recycled and repurposed materials, including fishing nets.Pirellis eco-sourced P-Zero Race FSCLidl-Trek are riding the Pireeli P-Zero Race FSC at the 2024 Tour de France. - Stan Portus / Our MediaPirelli is also taking steps towards developing greener products. Its new P-Zero Race FSC is one example. The new race tyre, used by Lidl-Trek at this years Tour de France, uses Forestry Stewardship Council-certified natural rubber. The new tyre is produced in Pirellis Bollate factory in Italy. All tyres produced in this facility will be FSC-approved.The switch to FSC-certified natural rubber hasnt led to a drop in performance. In fact, Pirelli says this new tyre is 6 per cent faster and 18 per cent lighter than its previous road racing tyre.Dares prototype Velocity Ace aero bikeDare's aero bike is defined by its mammoth head tube. - Stan Portus / Our MediaTaiwanese brand Dare had its unreleased Velocity Ace aero bike on display.Uno-X is racing the bike at the Tour de France, but Dare had a new colour scheme on display at Eurobike, which it says is limited to 50 framesets.Uno-X is riding the bike at the 2024 Tour de France. - Stan Portus / Our MediaThe bike has a deep head tube to help it cut through the wind. - WWW.BIKERADAR.COMTRP and Bosch launch E.A.S.I. A12 electronic drivetrain with automatic shifting for electric bikesTRP has released an electronic drivetrain in partnership with German motor brand Bosch. The new E.A.S.I. A12 1x12 drivetrain has been designed for use with electric bikes that use Boschs Performance Line CX and SX motors.Manual and automatic modes are available, with the latter said to keep you spinning the cranks at a consistent cadence whatever the load or speed. The drivetrain is centred around the A12 ebike-specific rear derailleur, which is then paired with varying shifting components depending on the type of riding you do.We've seen the new drivetrain at the Eurobike trade show but TRP is yet to release full details, with pricing also to be confirmed.E.A.S.I. compatibilityTRP's E.A.S.I. A12 ebike-specific derailleur showcased at Eurobike. - Nick Clark / Our MediaTRP has partnered with Bosch for this drivetrain, with the rear derailleur being for electric bikes only. The system takes advantage of Boschs updated eShift system, also released this week, which sees the drive motor momentarily reduce support during gear changes for crisper shifts and reduced mechanical wear. It's similar to SRAM's AXS Transmission and Powertrain automatic shifting features, with the bike keeping a consistent cadence. The system also implements Auto-Downshift, which automatically shifts down the cassette when you stop to give you the optimum gear to set off again. In addition, the TRP setup has a similar feature to SRAMs Coast Shift, called Roll Shift, which measures your rolling speed while coasting and automatically changes gears to match your speed. While in the automatic mode, you can override the system to change gears manually, though both Bosch and TRP claim this shouldnt be necessary.TRP says the system allows you to focus more on the trail or road ahead and less on what gear you should be in.E.A.S.I. A12TRP's new E.A.S.I. A12 on a Bosch bike at Eurobike 2024. - Nick Clark / Our MediaTRP says the new E.A.S.I. A12 derailleur has a cage release that allows for easy wheel removal by taking tension off the chain, similar to SRAMs Cage Lock.A clutch is also used in the derailleur, which is said to lead to a quiet ride by silencing chain slap.A cable runs to the derailleur from the main battery. - Nick Clark / Our MediaPower is taken from the ebike's main battery, reducing the amount of separate batteries that need to be kept charged. The drivetrain is compatible with TRPs range of 12-speed cassettes, including the gold EVO 12 cassette.Get shiftyWith the system being designed for all types of electric bikes, TRP has released hood-style shifters called Hywire for electric gravel bikes and a trigger called the CMD Shift Switch for electric mountain bikes.HywireThe gravel version of the TRP E.A.S.I. A12. - Nick Clark / Our MediaThe Hywire levers uses a similar button setup as Shimano for shifting gears, with the inside shifter button requesting a harder gear.An integrated master cylinder features inside the hood, with the system running on a newly formulated mineral oil.TRP, or Tekro Racing Products, is well known for its brakes. - Nick Clark / Our MediaA 5mm hydraulic hose is used, said to provide a firm bite, and the TRP brake calipers have been designed for 1.8mm-thick rotors. There are function buttons on the end caps for pairing the hoods with the E.A.S.I. system. - Nick Clark / Our MediaFunction buttons for pairing the hoods with the E.A.S.I. system feature on the end caps. A small green LED (not on in photo) indicates that the system is connected. CMD Shift SwitchTextured paddles provide grip when shifting in wet conditions. - Nick Clark / Our MediaFor electric mountain bikes, TRP's CMD Shift Switch uses CMD, or Command, technology that utilises a wireless connection to communicate with the drivetrain. It's compatible with SRAM Matchmaker and Shimano I-Spec EV-mounted brakes, meaning less hardware is needed on the bar.All this should make for a squeaky-clean cockpit with the right setup. An audible click is made when pressing the triggers, with a small bit of feedback present that is said to allow for precise shifts over rough terrain.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 179 Ansichten
