    Recapping Bike Month
Last week, the National Bike Month Challenge wrapped, and were thankful to see so many familiar names logging rides and miles throughout the month! This year was a big shift from our normal programming throughout the month of April, but we still had some great events in the month of May. Though the big push for #makeeveryridecount may be over, you can still keep pedaling to help advocate for better biking all year round. Results:First, lets check out leaders in some categoriesLara Desmond was theTop Encourager, logged theMost Trips,Rode to Workthe most days, and logged the mostTransportation Trips.Randall Legeai logged theMost Mileswith 1,209!Taylor Gorman was theTop Female Riderlogging 681 miles over just 20 trips!Andrew Pacheco logged 20Rides with Kidsto take the lead in that category! You can see some of the leaderboards at the end of this post. If youd like to see more of the leaderboards you can check out the results page for Love to Ride, and filter by region.Events:We held our first ever Ride to Remember event to provide a safe space to honor lives lost to people biking in New Orleans. Though we invited many elected officials who ultimately make decisions on life-saving infrastructure, not one attended or sent any representative. We did receive lots of media coverage, which we are very thankful for and hope continues to highlight the importance of protecting vulnerable road users. At the event, we heard from many great speakers about the importance of protecting people on bikes, had community partners providing information and goods, and offered 3 guided rides around the beautiful grounds of Lake Lawn Cemetery.During the month of May, we held weekly themes and shared educational information around each theme. Starting with celebrating New Riders, we then promoted Getting in Gear with a Commuting By Bike workshop. Bike to Work Week aligned with the national effort and we promoted with a coffee giveaway with HEY Coffee Co. on the Greenway. Where Ya Ridin was our penultimate weekly celebration, with Bike for a Better Future ending our efforts, encouraging everyone to keep the momentum rolling after the month of May.We ended the month by partnering with The Broadside to take part in their Big Rig summer movie series. They offered a screening of Pee-Wees Big Adventure and offered for anyone that biked there to receive a $1 ticket. We ran a free Bicycle Valet in their parking lot and had a great turn out to this event! It was a great family-friendly way to wrap up the month and let us work out logistics for future events at The Broadside (whos excited for ourBicycle Second Line Saturday, October 19th?!)#MakeEveryRideCountAs part of the National Bike Month, we joined the efforts of The League of American Bicyclists and Love to Ride with their effort to #MakeEveryRideCount. This initiative was asking individuals to log rides to provide data in national and local advocacy efforts around improving biking. In addition to collecting demographic, ride, and ridership data the LoveToRide app was launched which allows individuals to rate their ride and provide feedback on specific sections of their ride, allowing for super valuable subjective data.167 individuals in New Orleans joined us this year to be in the number for this years National Bike Month, and we encourage everyone to continue to use this great new app to make sure your voice gets recorded to help improve biking in Greater New Orleans
