'Things like this shouldnt happen' Tom Pidcock says two teammates were hit by police motorbike at Italian race
Tom Pidcock said that two of his teammates were hit by a police motorbike driving in the opposite direction to the race during the Italian one-day Tre Valli Varesine on Tuesday. The Pinarello Q36.5 rider went on to finish second behind Jarno Widar of Lotto-Intermarch in the 1.Pro race, but told Eurosport in his post-race interview that his day could have gone much worse."A police motorbike was going the wrong way down the course and crashed into two of our guys," Pidcock said. "So from this point... well, first of all I wanted to stop racing myself. I was mad. The guys all riding in front of me, for me, and two of them on the floor."The two riders hit were Marcel Camprubi and Thomas Gloag, with the latter unable to finish the race."Luckily Marcel was ok, he could continue," Pidcock continued."Tom was also ok, in the end, but he stopped the race, and he has some stitches in the knee.""Things like this shouldnt happen," Pidcock added. It is just the latest incident involving vehicles and riders at races. In August, Pidcock's British compatriot Finlay Tarling was killed when a non-race vehicle hit him after entering the course at the Volta a Portugal, with an investigation still ongoing. At the Tour of Britain Women last month, Australian rider Maeve Plouffe said she was nearly hit by a non-race car driver. However, Pidcock was able to recover from the incident and finish second, the second time in a week he has finished runner-up at an Italian one-day race, after the Giro dell'Emilia."Today was a little bit more unpredictable," he explained. "Im happy that we could be fighting for a podium in the end. It was not the easiest race, and we had to ride on our own at the start. We said: 'Were not going to isolate ourselves.' "Mark [Donovan] did a great job controlling by himself, holding the gap. It was quite big: 6-7 minutes, but then UAE came to help. we continued and got back into the race and Im happy that I could be on the podium. It was a shame I couldnt win, but Im so happy. Very impressive sprint by Widar."Next up for Pidcock is Il Lombardia on Saturday, which he will go into as one of the favourites.

Colnagos new G5-X gravel race bike is everything in only one package
CyclistColnagos new G5-X gravel race bike is everything in only one packageColnago has released the G5-X, its third generation gravel race bike, which bucks the modern trend of super-aero gravel bikes in favour of a versatile package design for all kinds of gravel races, from fast races where aero is important to multi-day ultras. It takes over from the G4-X, which the brand admits was still very harsh to ride, leading to a bigger rethink of the genre, its demands and what the next bike had to be given the G-series positioning as the gravel equivalent of the V-series all-round road race bikes, making this the off-road V5Rs.That led to an adjusted geometry and new handlebars for better handling technical terrain, a new carbon layup to enhance compliance without sacrificing responsiveness, adventure-focused features including six mounting points, down tube storage and a Fidlock bottle system, plus 53mm tyre clearance with room to spare for mud.The real proof of what Colnago believes the G5-X to be was at the media preview event in Tuscany last week, where journalists were taken on a couple of hair-raising rides on strade not-so bianche. You can read our first impressions of the bike in our Colnago G5-X first ride review, which will be live shortly.Claimed weight is a touch over 7.5kg for the 51 size, and, being Colnago, this is a premium-only bike, with electronic shifting only, and three specs, starting with the SRAM Rival AXS model, which is priced at 5,299.99 / 5,799 (France) / 4,900 (rest of Europe) / US pricing TBD.Colnago G5-X in shortA bike for all gravel races, prioritising versatility, handling and responsiveness Geometry geared towards technical riding slacker head tube angle, increased fork rake, shorter trail, longer wheelbase, increased BB drop New carbon layup for improved compliance53mm official tyre clearanceSix mounting points, plus down tube storageSold 1x only, but 2x compatibleFidlock bottle system, but can be fitted with normal cagesRound 27.2mm seatpostWhat is a gravel race bike anyway? Colnagos logic behind the G5-X updatesColnagoRoad metrics such as weight, stiffness and aerodynamics cannot simply be transferred to a gravel bike, Colnagos press release says, which should please those readers tired of reading about lighter, faster, stiffer on every new bike launch.Davide Fumagalli, Colnagos head of R&D, explains in more detail: For this third evolution we were looking at whats really happening when you ride a bike like this.Gravel racing means a lot of things nowadays. Gravel racing is a short gravel race, very fast; is a medium, 200, 300km gravel race, where you have to carry something; and its also a long distance gravel race. That means that the bike must be able to afford all different kind of races, where you need to be super-light and super-fast, or where you need to carry something with you, where you need to have a more compliant bike, where you need a bike more relaxed because you are more tired, where you need something more stable, races where you need to use a super-fast tyre and races where you need a 50mm tyre.Gravel is becoming quickly like a mountain bike 30 years ago, it was mountain bike full stop, and then we start to have cross country, trail, enduro, downhill. Gravel is becoming the same thing, we tried to put everything into only one package, and thats the G5-X.Colnago has highlighted four gravel races that show the demands of the category and the breadth of what the G5-X is expected to do: the Traka 200 shorter, faster but with highly technical section; Unbound 200 all-out, all-day speed, plus mud; Badlands, which was just won in record time by Colnago-sponsored pro Piotr Havik 800km self-supported ultra including lots of climbing and a mix of technical terrain; and GranGuanche Audax full storage capability, plus multi-day comfort. How does that translate into the design of the Colnago G5-X?GeometryGiona Mason / ColnagoProbably the most notable aspect of the G5-X is its geometry, so Ill let Filippo Galli, Colnagos R&D project leader explain: At first this has been designed as a racing bicycle, but around 50mm tyres. This means that the whole bike is longer to accommodate bigger tyres, and so its more stable and more compliant from this point of view together with the tyre. But, because of this, we didnt want to compromise with handling and with quickness in the handling, so the steering angle is more slack to both accommodate the bigger tyre and to allow more precise riding, but also the rake of the fork has had a significant increase. Now we are at 52mm of rake, that means that the trail of the bike is quite short, and this really gives a racing feeling. On top of this, to allow the rider to be more compact and more efficient on the bike, the bottom bracket has been lowered by around 1cm, so BB drop is 80mm. This allows a lower centre of mass of the whole bike and rider, and also the possibility to be more compact on the the bike for long distances. That, together with a more stable and more compliant bike, allows more efficiency at the end of the day.In short: Slacker head tube angle for added stability, bump absorption and steep descending confidence Increased fork rake to balance with the head tube angle and keep the steering quick by reducing trailLower bottom bracket to balance with bigger tyres, which lift the BB, as well as to add stability at speed and keep the rider feeling planted in the bikeLonger wheelbase for stability, smoothness, confidence on steep routes and to spread weight out more evenly on tricky climbs and cornersCarbon layupGiona Mason / ColnagoAs opposed to being stiffer and Fumagalli downplays the importance of stiffness, even in Colnagos road race bikes the G5-X has a new carbon layup designed to be more compliant, with a softer feeling on rougher terrain to help the body deal better with the impacts over a sustained period, while also staying responsive for quick power transfer.Comfort-focused spec choicesGiona Mason / ColnagoAlongside those two more complicated factors, Colnago has also made a few simpler design decisions that show the drive for comfort over watt-savings. The 53mm tyre clearance is the obvious one, more on that below, but there is also the inclusion of a round 27.2mm seatpost, which will flex more than an aero seatpost and allow for use of a dropper post on the odd occasion its necessary as well as a bigger range of choice if changing between seatposts dropper or not.The top two G5-X models also include the Colnago CC.01 Wide integrated carbon monocoque bar and stem, which has 30mm flare to the drops compared with to the standard CC.01s 10mm for better control in descents.Tyre clearanceGiona Mason / ColnagoColnago has been eager to point out the 53mm tyre clearance is nominal, with that measurement taken to include 6mm of buffer all the way around the tyre, which it says is more generous than a lot of brands quote for. That should provide extra breathing space for mud an Unbound essential. The brand also says its limited to that number because it maintained the option to swap in 2x groupsets for racing. The G5-X is only sold with 1x but the choice is there for those that want it.StorageGiona Mason / ColnagoTo cover ultra-races, Colnago has fitted the G5-X with six mounting points the two standard bottle positions on the down tube and seat tube, plus on the underside of the down tube, one on each fork leg and one on the top tube. And theres still space to strap on a frame bag and a saddle bag.Theres also down tube storage, which isnt as spacious as others on the market, but has enough room for essentials Colnago says it can fit a couple of tubes, a CO2 canister, a small pump and a multi-tool which with internal storage are better protected from the elements and come without the aero penalty of a bag.One spec choice that wont be seen in all types of races is the Fidlock bottle system in place of standard cages. Fumagallis biggest selling point for its inclusion is ease of use if riding with a frame bag that closes the top of a cage. However for those shorter, supported races where feed stops need to be rapid, the likes of Havik will swap to standard bottle cages, which can be easily subbed in.Colnago G5-X specs and pricesGiona Mason / ColnagoAll three tiers of the Colnago G5-X have the same frameset, the same sloping sizes (45, 48, 51, 54, 57), the same gear ratios (40t, 10-64t), the same two colour options (Carbon Green and Carbon Blue), the same headset, the same seatpost, the same BSA bottom bracket, the same thru-axles, and the same Sella Italia Novus saddle. What separates them? The Path Of The Jaguar Returns In 2028
UPDATED October 2, 2026 BY The TDA Team IN Path of the Jaguar no comments The Path Of The Jaguar Returns In 2028When we announced the Path of the Jaguar earlier this year, we certainly expected it to be popular. After all, it was an amazing cycling route through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala & Mexico. Along the way riders would be able to explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest, marvel at the sublime beauty of Lake Atitlan, sample Mexico Citys incredible street food, lounge in the sun on the sandy beaches of El Salvador and wander through the colonial architecture of Granada.Costa Rica RainforestThe response was incredible, the tour quickly sold out and the waitlist began to fill out. Originally, we thought we might run the tour every second year but obviously we needed to reconsider that idea, given the interest shown by our riders. We are pleased to announce that we are now offering cyclists another chance to experience Central America on the Path of the Jaguar. The 2028 adventure will depart from San Jose, Costa Rica on January 16, 2028 and arrive in Mexico City six weeks later on February 27, 2028. Same amazing route. Same incredible sights. If the size of the waiting list for the 2027 tour is an indication, we expect the tour to fill up as well. This time dont miss your chance.Plaza de la Constitucin, Mexico CityRELATEDTOURPath of the Jaguar The Jaguar. This majestic creature was considered sacred by both the Mayan and Aztec civilizations. UEC European Road Championships 2026 elite time trial start times
After a weekend of thrilling racing that brought us victories from Demi Vollering and Remco Evenepoel the latter which threw up a controversy that is still reverberating the moment has come for the time triallists to ply their trade in the UEC European Road Championships in Slovenia. Both elite women's and men's events will be held on Wednesday 7 October on the same 22.1km lap that served as the finish circuit for the weekend's road races. It starts and finishes in enur, around 20km north of the capital, Ljubljana.Anyone who watched the weekend's elite road races will remember that there is a significant climb halfway round, so this is no pan-flat course for the heavy powerhouses. In the women's event, which takes place first, starting at 14:30 CET, it's difficult to see past new world champion Marlen Reusser of Switzerland, although Demi Vollering and Franziska Koch will both be there to keep her honest. The men's event, which kicks off at 16:15 CET, feels more open, with home rider Primo Rogli, Stefan Kng (Swi) and Jakob Sderqvist (Swe) lining up with a chance. Of the riders who rode the recent Worlds time trial in Montral, the Swede is the highest place in fifth, but that was a much flatter course.European Championships elite women's time trial start times (all times CET)14:30 Eleftheria Giachou (Gre)14:31 Anja Perovi (Srb)14:32 Alina Abramenka (Blr)14:33 Bret Krist Gunnarsdttir (Isl)14:34 Valeriya Kononenko (Ukr)14:35 Beatriz Roxo (Por)14:36 Gergana Stoyanova (Bul)14:37 Varvara Fasoi (Gre)14:38 Nina Berton (Lux)14:39 Sandrine Tas (Ned)14:40 Lauren Dickson (Gbr)14:41 Marie Schreiber (Lux)14:42 Yuliia Biriukova (Ukr)14:43 Steffi Hberlin (Sui)14:44 Alessia Vigilia (Ita)14:45 Nika Bobnar (Slo)14:46 Juliette Berthet (Fra)14:47 Lieke Nooijen (Ned)14:48 Lotte Claes (Bel)14:49 Dominika Wodarczyk (Pol)14:50 Cdrine Kerbaol (Fra)14:51 Elisa Longo Borghini (Ita)14:52 Franziska Koch (Ger)14:53 Demi Vollering (Ned)14:54 Marlen Reusser (Sui)European Championships elite men's time trial start times (all times CET)16:15 Albion Kastrati (Kos)16:16 Nofal Nuriyev (Aze)16:17 Samet Bulut (Tur)16:18 Kristinn Jnsson (Isl)16:19 Ghennadii Morgun (Mol)16:20 Borislav Palashev (Bul)16:21 Catalin Buta (Rou)16:22 Dvid Kako (Svk)16:23 Axel Kllberg (Swe)16:24 Milo Lazarevi (Srb)16:25 Heorhii Antonenko (Ukr)16:26 Tiago Antunes (Por)16:27 Mathieu Kockelmann (Ger)16:28 Blerton Nuha (Kos)16:29 Andreas Miltiadis (Cyp)16:30 Miguel Heidemann (Ger)16:31 Aivaras Mikutis (Ltu)16:32 Rainer Kepplinger (Aut)16:33 Marco Frigo (Ita)16:34 Sander De Pestel (Bel)16:35 Burak Abay (Tur)16:36 Filip Maciejuk (Pol)16:37 Sjoerd Bax (Ned)16:38 Jnos Pelikn (Hun)16:39 Alex Kirsch (Lux)16:40 Maxime Decomble (Fra)16:41 Aleksandr Vlasov (Rus)16:42 Felix Groschartner (Aut)16:43 Mathias Vacek (Cze)16:44 Ilan Van Wilder (Bel)16:45 Marco Brenner (Ger)16:46 Mauro Schmid (Sui)16:47 Bruno Armirail (Fra)16:48 Micha Kwiatkowski (Pol)16:49 Nelson Oliveira (Por)16:50 Jan Tratnik (Slo)16:51 Mattia Cattaneo (Ita)16:52 Ivn Romeo (Spa)16:53 Mikkel Bjerg (Den)16:54 Primo Rogli (Slo)16:55 Callum Thornley (Gbr)16:56 Kasper Asgreen (Den)16:57 Stefan Kng (Sui)16:58 Jakob Sderqvist (Swe)
