- WWW.CYCLINGWEEKLY.COM'Ezra has already made tremendous strides' US rider discharged from hospital after horror crash at Philadelphia Cycling ClassicEzra Caudell has been discharged from hospital after being in critical condition following his crash at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic on 30 August. The 20-year-old American was said to be making "tremendous strides", 31 days on, in a new update shared by his team, Modern Adventure Pro Cycling, on Tuesday.During the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, Caudell lost his balance and hit either a kerb or a drain. His front wheel broke in the process, and Caudell collided with a lamppost. He was reportedly knocked unconscious but regained consciousness before being transported to hospital, where he was later placed in an induced coma.Previous updates said that Caudell suffered multi-system trauma, including head injuries and significant lung damage, before the team said he had been woken from sedation and was "making jokes".The rider from Georgia remains an inpatient at a new hospital for rehabilitation, before he continues to the rehab at home in Atlanta, Georgia. It is not thought further surgery will be needed on his lung contusions or fractures, while his neurologic recovery is said to be "encouraging".The statement from Modern Adventure reads: "Ezra Caudell was officially discharged from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital late last week, 31 days after his traumatic accident at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic. He will now begin an intensive phase of inpatient rehabilitation at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, followed by planned outpatient rehabilitation in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia."While a long road still lies ahead, Ezra has already made tremendous strides both literally and figuratively toward recovery. Prior to discharge, he was walking the halls of the hospital, and his medical team expects both his lung contusions and his fractures to continue healing without the need for further intervention."Just as encouraging has been his neurologic recovery. Ezra continues to show significant improvement from the injury to his brain, with progress in his strength, cognition, communication, and independence each day. His recovery will take time, but his progress over the past month has been remarkable, and to see him now walking, interacting with those around him, and moving on to rehabilitation represents an enormous milestone. The drive, work ethic, resilience, and attitude that propelled him to the highest levels of his sport will undoubtedly serve him well on the road ahead."Ezras family and the Modern Adventure Pro Cycling team have every confidence in him and remain deeply grateful for the continued support he has received."0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 49 Views

- WWW.CYCLINGWEEKLY.COM'If having fun on a gravel bike is your goal, this really is the ideal tool': Our first ride on Colnago's new G5-X gravel bikeWhen Colnago launched the G4-X back in 2024 it said it had taken learnings from its V4Rs road bike and brought them to the world of gravel. Two years later, and the Italian brand now says it recognises that its no longer possible to simply borrow road metrics... and apply them just as easily to a gravel bike.Colnago says, now, You have to start from real-world use, from each individual type of terrain, and from the specific demands of every kind of gravel racing.Does its G5-X do that? Let's dive in.(Image credit: Future)According to Colnago, the G5-X represents a 'ground up' rethink of its gravel bike, but, the machine is still very much focused on racing rather than adventure. In design, Colnago took notes from four major races: Traka 200, Unbound 200, Badlands and the GranGuanche Audax. The result of this is revised geometry, including a larger bottom bracket drop and longer wheelbase, larger tyre clearances now 53mm integrated downtube storage, a reportedly more compliant carbon layup and an intriguing switch back to a 27.2mm round profile seat post from the D-shaped post found on the G4-X. 53mm tyre clearanceIts unsurprising that Colnago has bolstered the tyre clearance on the G5-X as many brands try to squeeze larger rubber into their frames, especially seeing as the 45mm clearance on the G4-X definitely limited its appeal.(Image credit: Future)This 53mm clearance isnt the largest weve seen released this year; the new Canyon Grail and Factor Elara have a claimed tyre clearance of 57mm and the new Specialized Crux 55mm. It does bring the G5-X in line with bikes such as the Wilier Rave, Giant Revolt and Ribble Ultra-Grit and means that the new bike can comfortably fit the 50mm tyres that it comes fitted with. Its also worth noting that Colnago chooses to follow the more generous ISO mountain bike guidelines with 6mm of space rather than the ISO road guidelines which stipulates only 4mm of space is required around the tyre. The result is a bike that may fit larger tyres than is initially apparent and Im sure well see Colnago sponsored athletes pushing these limits in rocky races.(Image credit: Future)Revised GeometryTo fit wider tyres Colnago has had to rethink the geometry starting with the bottom bracket drop. Wider tyres usually mean a higher centre of gravity and so Colnago has counteracted this by dropping the BSA 68mm bottom bracket by nearly a centimeter. The Italian brand hasnt stopped there though, a longer wheelbase is said to aid traction and comfort whilst a slacker head tube angle helps the bike to be more stable at speed with increased rake to keep steering responsive.(Image credit: Future)Downtube Storage(Image credit: Future)The other big change from its predecessor is that the new gravel bike benefits from internal frame storage in the downtube - a very similar design to the one found on the Colnago C72 road bike. Unlike on the C72, the bag or tools aren't provided with the bike and so this will have to be purchased separately.Colnago G5-X - first ride impressionsWith just one gravel bike in its range the Colnago G5-X has no choice but to be more versatile than bikes such as the Factor Elara, where athletes can switch for the Aluto and Sarana for longer races. However, by being suitable for everything does it fail to excel in any one area?Having ridden the G5-X both in Tuscany and on my home trails of South Wales Id argue that this potential weakness is in fact its strength. The G5-X has felt composed yet fun on technical single track and rocky descents, fast when driving into a headwind across a plain and well-mannered on sections of road linking the gravel together. Its also refreshing in 2026 to find a gravel race bike that hasnt sacrificed comfort or handling in return for a few watts of aerodynamic drag at a speed that even the pros struggle to maintain.(Image credit: Future)Its also more versatile than ever. Ive enjoyed using the downtube storage and leaving my saddlebag at home. I also like that theres a few extra mounting points, for example on the top tube and fork legs, for that one longer gravel ride I do a year where I need to carry extra stuff. It can also now take a dropper post (if thats your thing) and all of the models seem well specced. The revised geometry may or may not have been devised as a direct result of the wider tyre clearances, but either way, it works. I was worried that even with the changes the bike would feel too twitchy, like the G4-X, or that Colnago would have taken it too far and created a bike that was dull to ride. I neednt have worried.(Image credit: Future)The G5-X feels more interesting to ride than many of the gravel bikes Ive had the chance to test recently, but, unlike some that doesnt coincide with feeling 'under biked'. If having fun on a gravel bike is your goal, this really is the ideal tool. However, whether this is also the bike Id want to be on at the end of a 9-hour gravel ride when every muscle aches I cant yet say; Ill be sure to find out before publishing my full review. The Colnago G5-X isnt the very lightest gravel bike in the world but I doubt most people will care. It wont fit the widest tyres, but it fits big enough so, again, I doubt many people will care. Its probably not the most aero gravel bike in the world either, but even with a degree in aerospace engineering, I dont care.Ultimately, Colnago has made a bike thats great to ride and extremely capable. Perhaps more brands should focus on that rather than the spec sheet? Build and pricingThe G5-X is available in two colour options from launch, Carbon Blue or Carbon Green and five sizes. Theres three spec options available:9,999 / 9,200 / $10,500 Sram Red XPLR AXS - With CC.01 Wide integrated cockpit and Zipp 303 XPLR SW wheels.6,299 / 5,750 / $7,500 Sram Force XPLR AXS - With CC.01 Wide integrated cockpit and Vision TC45 Carbon wheels5,299 / 4,900 / $5,500 Sram Rival XPLR AXS - With Colnago SR10 alloy stem, Deda Superzero gravel alloy handlebar and Vision TC45 Carbon wheels. All spec levels feature the same carbon layup and ship with 50mm tyres.Compared to its competition, that's surprisingly competitive given the Italian brands usual pricing. For example, an S-Works Crux with SRAM Red would set you back 2,000 more, an Argon 18 Antimatter is 500 more with the same top-spec groupset and wheels and for a similar price you could get a Wilier Rave SLR ID2, which is often praised for its value for money.Of course, theres plenty of cheaper options available, for example the new Canyon Grail CFR tops out at 7,600 but I would rather have the wheels that come with the G5-X.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 40 Views

- WWW.BIKERADAR.COM"A V5Rs for the dirt" new Colnago G5-X is built for compliance, comfort and gravel racingThe G5-X is Colnagos third-generation gravel bike. It follows the G3-X, which Colnago admittedly described as a cyclocross bike with gravel leanings, and the G4-X, which Colnago athlete Piotr Havik road to victory at this year's Badlands gravel race in a record-breaking 36 hours and 15 minutes.Despite the bike's success, Colnagos design team, headed up by Davide Fumagalli, knew the G4-X needed an update. Gravel bike geometry has been moving at a pace, and not only with the current trend for ever-wider tyres. Plus, there are greater demands for comfort, handling and even aerodynamics.Fumagalli explains the goals for the new bike are all about balance. Colnago wanted a bike that could be raced competitively in gravel events, from 200km to the ultra-distances of races such as Badlands. Comfort through compliance and stability was a priority over the out-and-out aerodynamics of gravel bikes such as Factors Elara. While the shapes have seen some aero work and integration is smooth, the G5-X is no aero gravel racer. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey Back with the G3-X, we made a fast, race, gravel bike," says Fumagalli. "Some described its stiff character as being a crit gravel bike. With the G4-X, we improved the ride quality, the G5-X is far superior for comfort and handling. He continues: We have brought some aerodynamics to the tubing shapes and the integration of the cockpit and the fork, though we arent making an out and out aero-race gravel bike here. This is not a gravel Y1Rs, we set out to make something more of a V5Rs for the dirt. I rode a new gravel bike in Tuscany and it made me realise the best options are more like Swiss army knives than scalpels here's whyG5-X changes The seatpost is a slender, round 27.2mm diameter, opening up the G5-X to dropper-post compatibility. The G5-Xs new-found abilities are centred on a fresh geometry and carbon layup schedule to get the most out of the material's compliance and stiffness where needed. The new geometry slackens the head angle to 71 degrees on larger sizes (70 on smaller bikes), lengthens the wheelbase and lowers the bottom bracket to a large drop of 80mm. At the same time as slackening the head angle, Colnago has increased the fork rake to 52mm, giving the bike a trail of 72mm with a 50mm tyre, or 68mm for 40mm rubber. The bottom-bracket drop has increased to 80mm, lowering the centre of gravity to improve stability. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey Alongside the geometry changes, the frame and fork have lost weight, with the frame a claimed 950g for a medium (51 size) frame, down from 1,050-1,120g depending on size. The fork weighs a claimed 420g. The range-topping Red XPLR AXS model in a size 48 (small) weighs in at a claimed 7.2kg with 50mm tyres lighter than the previous bike with 45mm tyres.Fumagalli says the new carbon construction improves compliance, while maintaining the stiffness through the drivetrain that the G4-X was renowned for. Further comfort comes from the switch out of the aero D-shaped seatpost to a standard slimline 27.2mm carbon post, which also makes the G5 compatible with gravel dropper posts for further versatility.Colnago also realised the stripped-down frame design of the G4-X was limiting for some riders. The new design gains fork mounts alongside its triple bottle cages and top-tube bento box mounts. Down-tube storage and Fidlock magnetic low-profile bottle cages as standard. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey The G5-X also gains down-tube storage, while the bike come with Fidlock's magnetic bottle cage mounts and twin compatible bottles. The Fidlock system takes up less space than a standard bottle cage, providing more clearance for a large frame bag. The G5-X comes with a replacement plate for the down-tube storage cover should you want to run standard cages. The CC.01 Wide bar is based on the road bar from the V5Rs with increased flare. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey The cockpit on the two top models is the new CC.01 Wide. Its based on the CC.01 cockpit found on the V5Rs, but with an additional 3cm of flare. The 72.5mm reach is matched to a width of 40cm at the hoods and 44cm at the drops, with multiple stem-length options from 80mm to 120mm.Is 53mm tyre clearance enough? Tyre clearance is now 53mm. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey The most contentious detail of the new bike is the perhaps conservative 53mm of tyre clearance. We have 53mm of clearance with the road ISO standard of 6mm of clearance all round. Some of the other gravel bikes on the market use the mountain bike ISO standard, which reduces the space to 4mm, says Fumagalli. On my test bike, equipped with 50mm Goodyear XPLR Inter tyres, the fork had plenty of room to spare, and the rear had more than 4mm between tyre and stays. The reason for the 53mm measurement is Colnago was keen to retain 2x drivetrain compatibility.Colnago has seen plenty of customers using their G-series bikes as all-roaders, preferring a traditional double-chainring setup. The G5-X can be run with a road-going 50/34 crankset rather than just smaller, adventure-orientated 46/30 or 48/32t combinations.Colnago G5-X range details The range-topping Red AXS XPLR model is priced at 9,999. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey The G5-X is topped by a race-ready SRAM Red AXS XPLR / Zipp 303 XPLR SW wheelset / Colnago CC01 cockpit-equipped model, priced at 9,999 / $TBC / 9,200.The range starts at 5,299 / $TBC / 4,900 for a bike with SRAM Rival AXS XPLR, Vision TC45 carbon wheelset, alloy gravel bar and stem.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 31 Views
- WWW.CYCLINGWEEKLY.COM'A line was crossed that day' Matthew Richardson reveals details of shocking crash and rapid recoveryBritish track sprinter Matthew Richardson believes a line was crossed when he was taken out by another rider while racing in Japan this summer. The 27-year-old suffered a broken shoulder and spent four days in hospital after he crashed on an asphalt velodrome during a Keirin World Series event in Tachikawa at the end of July. Footage of the incident shows another rider cutting across the track and ramming into Richardson, in a move the Briton believes was intentional. So the crash that ruled former Aussie Matt Richardson out of the cycling in Glasgow is... https://t.co/jNb3ZOY56QJuly 30, 2026I think a line was crossed that day, for sure, he said in a round table interview ahead of his comeback at next weeks UCI Track World Championships. We understood the risk as international racers coming in to race Japanese keirin, we knew it was argy-bargy. I think there is a difference between argy-bargy and intentionally taking a wider line to hit someone off their bike. I think its just a shame that a rider has decided to put another persons safety at risk like that. Like I said, we do understand the risks, but I think that was probably a step too far. The rider who crashed into Richardson, Japans Gento Suzuki, was disqualified from the race. He posted on X afterwards: Im sorry for disqualifying in Tachikawa. There are no excuses it was simply down to my own lack of skill!Richardson said he has received no direct apology since the crash. I havent spoken to him, dont intend to speak to him, and thats that, he said. A post shared by Matthew Richardson (@matty__richo)A photo posted by Due to his injuries, Richardson had to miss the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he was due to make his debut for Team England. He watched the competition instead from his hospital bed in Japan, as he waited for his broken scapula and swollen hip to heal. This was definitely the worst crash Ive ever had, he said. Its the first time that Ive ever crashed and not basically gotten up and walked it off. I was just stuck to the floor. My whole right side just felt like it was on fire. Richardson returned to light turbo training a week later I was back on the bike before I could walk without a crutch and within two weeks was sprinting again at full tilt. Capping his comeback, the double Olympic silver medallist has today been named as part of Great Britains 20-rider squad for the Track Worlds in Shanghai, China, scheduled for 14-18 October. His injuries, he says, have taken longer to heal than expected. But hes grateful they werent worse. If Id landed in a slightly different way, I might not be walking, he said. Things have progressed very well, but at the time I thought the World Championships were more likely to be a no-go. I just really wanted to try and challenge myself and still make the Worlds.I havent raced since the crash, but theres nothing to indicate that Im not on my best possible form. If I was doing the times and the powers that Im doing in training without the crash, I would have zero concern coming into the World Championships. Ive got to take that as confidence. Richardson (right) beat world champion Harrie Lavreysen (left) to two European titles in February. (Image credit: Olly Hassell/SWPix)Richardsons sole career world title came in the team sprint in 2022, then representing Australia prior to his nationality switch after the 2024 Paris Olympics. Five times a Worlds silver medallist, his big rival is the Netherlands Harrie Lavreysen, the most successful track cyclist of all time with 20 rainbow jerseys. In Shanghai, Richardson will compete in the team sprint, individual sprint and keirin, and could face Lavreysen in all three finals. I always expect a high level of myself, and I do truly believe that I stand a chance at winning world titles, Richardson said. Going there and medalling would obviously be fantastic I think thatll be a really good showing of the rehab and the team Ive got at British Cycling getting me to that level, but Im still going [to Shanghai] to win gold.
