'An incredibly difficult decision' British Continental women's team closes after nine years
DAS-Hutchinson, the UK's most successful women's UCI Continental team in recent years, will close down at the end of 2026.Founded in 2018 as Torelli-Brother, the team won four of the last five editions of the British domestic scene's biggest prize, the National Road Series, through Sammie Stuart, Monica Greenwood, Robyn Clay, and most recently Morven Yeoman. The decision to close comes due to the rising costs of running a squad at UCI level, the tier below the professional ranks, the team explained in a statement published on its website. "Despite the fantastic backing of our partners, maintaining the programme at the standard we believe our riders and staff deserve has become increasingly difficult," the statement read. "As a result, DAS-Hutchinson will not continue as a UCI Continental team in 2027." The team will, however, live on as a lower-ranked development club under the name Team OnForm. A post shared by DAS-Hutchinson (@dashutchinson)A photo posted by Simon Howes, the owner and original founder of DAS-Hutchinson, hailed his team's "incredible journey" over the last nine years. "Above all, Im proud of the opportunities we have been able to give riders. Seeing athletes come through the programme, develop with us and go on to take the next steps in their careers has always meant more than any individual result," he said. "Teams like this are such an important part of the pathway in womens cycling."In recent seasons, DAS-Hutchinson made it a key part of their race programme to accept invites to international WorldTour events, and competed in the Tour de Suisse, Vuelta a Burgos, and prestigious Tour of Flanders. Past riders who have gone on to graduate to the WorldTour include Anna Henderson (Lidl-Trek), Becky Storrie and Robyn Clay (Picnic PostNL). "It has been an incredibly difficult decision to bring the Continental programme to an end, but now feels like the right time," Howes said. "Im enormously proud of what we have built and hugely grateful to every rider, member of staff, volunteer, sponsor, partner and supporter who has played a part in it."DAS-Hutchinson's closure means there stand to be three women's UCI Continental teams in the UK next season: Handsling Alba Development, O'Shea RedChilli Bikes and Smurfit Westrock. There have been no British men's UCI Continental teams since the collapse of Saint Piran in 2024.

Due in 2024, but timeline now disappearing for video upload on Garda road traffic reporting portal
It could help take our most dangerous drivers off the roads but opposition spokesperson says it isnt a priority forMinister for Justice.A video upload function for the Garda road traffic reporting portal was due to go live possibly in 2024, then in 2025, and then in 2026 now it has no timeline. The reporting portal with a video upload feature was supposed to simplify the process of providing evidence of road traffic offences.Councillor Feljin Jose, the Green Partys spokesperson on transport, said: This should be a quick win. There are hours of dash cam and bike cam footage that could be used to take our most dangerous drivers off the roads. Instead, the process of reporting dangerous driving is stuck in the 20th century. He added: Unfortunately, it doesnt seem to be a priority for the Minister for Justice as shown by the timelines now disappearing entirely. In 2023, the video function was to go live in 2024 at the earliest, and the in a September 2025 parliamentary answer, the Minister said: Garda authorities envisage that the portal will be developed across the remainder of 2025, and 2026.But now, just 12 months later, the timeline has been removed from the latest answer to a question asked by Dublin TD and Green Party leader Roderic OGorman. In a parliamentary answer published this week, Minister for Justice Jim OCallaghan said: The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the allocation and deployment of Garda resources under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, as well as the management and administration of operational policing matters, including the Traffic Watch online reporting system.I am advised by the Garda authorities that, as part of An Garda Sochnas ongoing commitment to road safety, an online Traffic Watch reporting form has been available since August 2024. Traffic Watch is a partnership approach which enables road users to work with An Garda Sochna in improving driver behaviour, reducing road collisions and preventing fatalities, he said.Minister OCallaghan said: An Garda Sochna has also committed to developing a system that will enable members of the public to report incidents and upload video footage through an online portal, including footage relating to alleged road traffic offences. He said delivering this capability requires procuring and implementing a Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) to securely store, manage and process digital evidence, and that the system procurement forms part of the wider Body-Worn Camera programme currently being rolled out.He added: Garda authorities have advised that the DEMS public upload portal will not be introduced until the procurement process and national rollout of body-worn cameras has advanced. This initial phase will manage digital evidence from BWCs and will be expanded at a later date to integrate with an enterprise DEMS to accommodate a wide range of other digital evidence sources and also introduce the public upload portal for online submission of digital evidence by members of the public. The Department of Justice was contacted today for comment and asked if there was a new timeline; it referred this website to the Garda Press Office. A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office referred to the parliamentary answer, and said: An Garda Sochna has no further comment at this time.
