Is Wiggle well and truly dead? Former retail giant's website is no more
As of today, potential customers and browsers attempting to view stock on the websites wiggle.com and chainreactioncycles.com will find themselves redirected to the main website of Evans Cycles, prompting speculation that what was once one of the biggest names in online retail within the cycling industry is now, finally, completely dead and gone. Cycling Weekly has reported extensively on the travails of one-time online behemoth Wiggle Chain Reaction Cycles (WiggleCRC) since it was first put into administration in October 2023, after its parent company SSU filed for insolvency, with millions of pounds owed in debts to some 400 creditors. In February the following year, WiggleCRC was acquired by Mike Ashleys Frasers Group, with the sale subsequently creating headlines when it was revealed that the group run by Ashley's son-in-law Michael Murray had paid less than 10 million for an asset once valued at over 200 million, and that almost all the companys staff around 450 people had been laid off. It eventually transpired that Frasers Group only forked out 3 million for WiggleCRC.Previously, in 2018, the Frasers Group had hoovered up high street and online retailer Evans Cycles for 8 million, making 300 workers redundant three years later and placing the remaining staff to zero-hour contracts. The group, which revolves around the main cash cow Sports Direct, also owns cycling retailer ProBikeKit, German chain SportScheck, luxury department store Harvey Nichols and a large chunk of Hugo Boss. Frasers Group showed pre-tax profits 538m in the latest financial year, but having gone on a spending spree to acquire new companies, its net debt rose from 941 million to 1.26 billion in the year to 26 April 2026.After acquiring WiggleCRC, Frasers relaunched both the Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles websites, which appeared separately to the Evans Cycles site, to maintain three online shop windows in order to achieve its stated aim to become the no.1 Sporting Goods retailer in Europe. With two of the URLs now having been killed off, it looks like this strategy has changed, marking the end of the road for the Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles names. Cycling Weekly reached out to the Frasers Group for comment.

'I really didnt expect this today' Eddie Dunbar climbs to Vuelta a Espaa stage 19 win as Enric Mas retains red
Eddie Dunbar climbed to victory atop Pea Blancas on stage 19 of the Vuelta a Espaa on Friday, timing his final surge to the line perfectly to win.The Pinarello Q36.5 rider chased down Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) inside the final kilometre to take his third Vuelta stage win, and his first victory in four years. In doing so, Dunbar won Pinarello Q36.5's first Grand Tour stage, and just their second WorldTour race. To cap things off for the team, third place went to Tom Gloag, also of Pinarello Q36.5.Behind, Enric Mas (Movistar) finished with the group of favourites, meaning he retains the red jersey by a healthy margin going into the penultimate day, Saturday's stage 20. Primo Rogli (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Mas's closest challenger, attempted to shake things up, but he could not distance the Spaniard, who is now just two days away from glory. Dunbar was part of a group of 20 which was fully established with around 111km to go, before it was gradually whittled down to a final group of four on the final climb: himself, Buitrago, Gloag and Urko Berrade (Kern Phama). Buitrago attacked with about 1.8km to go, and was reeled in by Dunbar inside the final 700m."Its incredible," Dunbar said on TV post-stage. "I really didnt expect this today, I even said in the team radio after about 50 or 60km that today wasnt my day, I wasnt feeling good. I ended up in the break, and my legs came round a bit. I had two teammates in the break as well, which helped, that made me feel a lot more comfortable in the breakaway. It gave me a bit of time to relax if anything happened on the flat or on the descents, I had someone there. "They did a super job, and having Tom there in the final made a big difference. This year I had three months out where I didnt ride a bike at all after a bad accident, and I really didnt think Id be here, even competing for stages. I cant believe it, I cant.""When youre in a situation like that, I wish I had the same legs as Buitrago for sure, because the attacks he put in were incredibly strong," he added. "I need to be a bit more careful about when I used my effort. I knew I had one effort in me and I wanted to use that to win the stage. When they went on the steep bit with about 12km to go I paced myself there not to go into the red, and I came back. "Having Tom there gave us a bit of extra insurance, and I thought Tom was gonna get the win today, he looked super strong. In the end, having the numbers there really played in our favour. That last kilometre went so quick, I dont really remember what happened."More to follow...
