Sam Bennett finished third on stage 2 of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men in Skegness on Thursday 3 September, on a day the crosswinds tore the race apart along the Lincolnshire coast.Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) won the sprint on the promenade, launching with 350 metres to go and winning by a clear margin from Olav Kooij, with Bennett (Pinarello Q36.5) third and his teammate Matteo Moschetti fourth. It is Merliers tenth win of the season.I was a bit boxed in and some other riders passed me before the corner, but there was still 350m to go and then I think some guys didnt really accelerate after the corner, Merlier said. I tried to surprise the others, and I think it worked out.A four-man break went from the flag and stayed clear for 120km of the 181.1km stage from Boston. Jnos Pelikn took both climbs, at Kirmond Road and Rothwell Hill, and Jonah Killy took the first intermediate sprint at Saltfleetby before the group was reeled in. Killy took the combativity award. The race exploded when it hit the coast at Mablethorpe, echelons forming across the road with Decathlon driving. A mechanical at the wrong moment left Filippo Ganna on the wrong side of the split and he never got back, ending his GC hopes. Matteo Trentin won the second sprint at Sutton-on-Sea, with race leader Lewis Askey third for a bonus second. Florian Vermeersch attacked inside the last 10km and built almost 30 seconds before being caught.Askey keeps the leaders jersey, now 12 seconds ahead of Tim Wellens and 19 ahead of Trentin, and holds the points classification by 15. Michal Schuran keeps the mountains lead and Elliot Rowe the young rider jersey.Irish RidersBennetts third place is the standout, and he was one of the riders who made the decisive split at Mablethorpe. He climbs 15 places to 76th overall. Ryan Mullen and Conn Mc Dunphy came home together in 53rd and 58th at 1:43, with Ronan OConnor and Cian Keogh in a later group at 15:39. Mc Dunphy remains the best-placed Irish rider overall in 61st.IRLIrish Riders Stage 2Thu 3 September 2026 Boston Skegness 181.1km3Sam BENNETTPinarello Q36.5 76th overall, +6:18 8th on pointss.t.53Ryan Aoife OBrien led an Ireland National Team clean sweep of the podium on stage 2 of Rs na mBan in Gorey on Thursday 3 September, winning the stage and taking the magenta jersey from Alma Rasmussen, who lost more than two minutes after a crash.OBrien won the 97km loop in 2:32:04 at an average of 38.27km/h, with her teammates Emma Jeffers second and Emer Heverin third an Irish one-two-three. Amelia Cebak was fourth and Oceane Goergan fifth, with Gabrielle Fox (Cycling Ulster) sixth to put a fourth Irish rider in the top six.The peloton averaged over 43km/h out of Gorey on wide roads that deterred early attacks. Lucy Glover (Finish Line RT) took the intermediate sprint from Cebak, OBrien and Jeffers, before a crash at 75km brought down several riders including Rasmussen. The Dane got back on her bike but was still chasing at 50km to go, more than two minutes down. The category 3 climb at Rednagh 2.2km at 5% with a maximum of 11.4% then split the race apart, leaving around 30 riders at the front with Ireland controlling. Noemie Garnier had a mechanical while wearing the mountains jersey but chased back on.OBrien now leads the general classification by ten seconds from Jeffers and twelve from Heverin, with Ireland heading the team classification. She also leads the points and young rider classifications, with Jeffers and Heverin wearing those jerseys on the road, and Cebak wearing the leaders jersey as stage runner-up. Garnier keeps the mountains lead.Stage 2 ResultSTGStage 2 ResultGorey Gorey 97km Thu 3 September 2026 38.27km/h 81 finishers1Aoife OBRIEN (1)Ireland National Team 2:32:042Emma JEFFERS (3)Ireland "Already a winner" Duke's first 32in wheelsets promise big-wheel rollover without the weight
French wheel brand Duke has released two new carbon 32in wheelsets: the XC-focused Lucky Jack SLS5 32in and gravel-oriented Sierra 42 32in.Duke says the cross-country model is "already a winner after a prototype version tasted victory under Felix Stehli on a stage of the Cape Epic earlier this year. The brand says both wheelsets have been designed from scratch for the bigger size, rather than simply scaling up Duke's existing 29in and 700c rims.Duke says it has done this because a bigger wheel behaves differently on the trail or road, with more leverage acting on the rim, more inertia and different spoke angles.Complete Lucky Jack SLS5 32in wheelsets start at 1,559 for a DT Swiss 370 CL SP hub and top out with Chris King-equipped hubs priced at 2,489. You can buy the rim for 607.The Sierra 42 32in complete wheelsets start at 1,659 with a Baron CL SP hub and rise, with Chris King R45 CL hubs, to 2,599. The rim is also available for 649.Lucky Jack SLS5 32in Duke shows off the wheels alongside Fox's 32in prototype fork. DUKE The Lucky Jack SLS5 is Duke's cross-country wheel. Beyond Stehli's Cape Epic result, Singer KTM Racing is also lined up to race it at the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Cup.The wheel has been around in different size variants for a little while, but the brand says the 32in version was designed from the ground up.Duke says the rim is made using its SLS5 manufacturing process, which it claims makes it 10% lighter than the previous generation, with better vertical compliance, more resistance to impacts and improved vibration damping. The rim is hookless, with moulded spoke holes and a varnish-free finish. The rims come in three variants. DUKE Duke lists three available rim variants, with two featuring a 31mm internal width, 4mm of offset and a 28h spoke pattern, weighing 360g and 400g.The other has a 29mm internal rim width and weighs in at 410g, while featuring the brands AntiPinch rim edge, which is said to minimise the risk of punctures.Duke recommends pairing a lighter front rim with the 410g rear.In its lightest build, with Duke's own hubs and Sapim spokes, Duke quotes a full wheelset weight of 1,233g, with a stated tolerance of +/- 30g.The brand recommends a 2.2 to 2.4in tyre width, which is up to date with modern XC expectations.Sierra 42 32in As the name suggests, the Sierra 42 32in wheels are 42mm deep. DUKE The Sierra 42 is Duke's gravel wheel, positioned as an update to the existing Sierra 42 with the added rollover of a bigger wheel. It's built from Toray T1100 carbon fibre using Duke's SLR5 process, which the brand says cuts weight by up to 23% compared to the older version.Unlike the XC rim, it uses a hooked profile, aimed at road and gravel tyre pressures. The rim is 42mm deep and weighs a claimed 390g, with a 28mm internal width.Duke quotes a starting weight of 1,270g for complete pairs, and recommends tyre widths of 40mm to 2.2in.Further gravel rim options are said to be in development, although Duke hasn't given a timeline.

"Im starting to believe" - Enric Mas believes La Vuelta win is within reach after Calar Alto masterclass
Enric Mas stamped his authority again on stage 12 of the Vuelta a Espaa 2026. The Movistar Team leader attacked with 10 kilometres to go to Calar Alto and added another 27 seconds to his advantage over Primoz Roglic and Felix Gall, tightening his grip on the red jersey. Canyon reveals 32in gravel bike made especially for LeBron James
Canyon has revealed a Grizl CF gravel bike with 32in wheels, made especially for LeBron James. The bike was designed and built in southern Germany and Wolfgang Kohl, Canyons lead engineer for gravel, says it wasnt just a case of taking the current frame and making it bigger".The geometry might land in the right place, but the loads don't scale the way the dimensions do. Everything needed to get re-engineered or the bike simply wouldn't function as a responsive system to the rider, Kohl explains.Alongside its 32in wheels, the 3XL bike uses a special carbon layup to withstand the load the 6ft 9in athlete and NBA player will put through the frame. It also has custom CNC-machined thru-axles with wider Boost spacing and a custom seat clamp.A bespoke bike and a familiar story LeBron James' custom 32in Canyon Grizl gravel bike. Canyon While there is a lot of hype and debate around 32in wheels, Canyons bike for LeBron James doesnt mean the brand is publicly committing to the oversized wheels. In fact, it describes the bike as a one of a kind, even if it is fully functional. This is a similar story to Scotts recent 32in bikes, which Robin Gemperle used to win the 2026 Unbound 2026 XL race and Cameron Jones also rode on the shorter 200-mile Unbound course. However, when Scott revealed its 32in bikes, it said they were pure prototypes and they would never be released on the market.BMC athletes also raced a 32in prototype at the Andorran round of the XC World Cup in July 2025, but BMC later told BikeRadar it had no plans to release a 32in bike. James' 32in Canyon Grizl (left) next to the standard Grizl. Canyon So it seems that while big mainstream brands are still treating 32in wheels as an experiment, its only smaller bespoke companies that are committing to the size. That doesnt mean we wont see the likes of Canyon, Scott or BMC eventually release a 32in-wheel bike.Schwalbe said in January that it is fully convinced by the wheel size and that it would release 32in tyres next year (its prototype 32in G-One RX tyres are fitted to James' new Grizl).Meridas Stephan Seitz told us in March that the company is developing gravel bikes and cross-country mountain bikes with the wheel size. He also added we can expect to see 32in wheels become the performance standard by the spring of next year.In the meantime, its LeBron James who is reaping the benefits of Canyons experimentation and hes probably the ideal candidate, because the general consensus is the wheel size will be ideal for taller riders.James says: On most bikes I've ridden, I was aware of the bike, where it didn't fit me, what I was working around. This is the first one that I didn't have to think about. That's what I love most about riding. It's just you out there and everything else is gone.

Jakob Omrzel (Bahrain Victorious) won stage 12 of the Vuelta a Espaa at Calar Alto on Thursday 3 September, riding the last 12km alone to become the youngest Slovenian to win a Grand Tour stage. At 20 years, five months and 13 days, Omrzel beats the mark Tadej Pogaar set at the 2019 Vuelta by nearly six months, and is the youngest Grand Tour stage winner of any nationality since Celestino Prieto in 1981. He took the 166.6km stage from Vera in 4:29:53, 1:56 ahead of Urko Berrade with his teammate Santiago Buitrago third at 2:13.Calar Alto, at 2,153 metres, is the highest finish of this Vuelta. Omrzel went with the days breakaway and rode clear on the upper slopes, also climbing four places to sixth overall.Nearly three minutes behind, Enric Mas distanced his rivals to extend the red jersey. He now leads Primo Rogli by 1:45, having taken half a minute from him, with Felix Gall third at 2:06 and Richard Carapaz up one to fourth. Oscar Onley crashed early in the stage and finished more than five minutes down, but keeps the young rider jersey by 30 seconds from Omrzel.Wout van Aert leads the points classification on 194 and was named most combative. Buitrago extends his mountains lead to 52 points and Decathlon CMA CGM hold the teams classification, with Bahrain Victorious climbing six places to second after their one-three on the stage.Irish RidersEddie Dunbar (Pinarello Q36.5) came home 66th at 29:17 on the hardest summit finish of the race and drops four places to 50th overall.
