New Scott Addict Gravel has massive 57mm tyre clearance and lightest weight yet but there's no 32in version
The new Scott Addict Gravel is designed to be more comfortable, more capable and versatile enough for race days and carrying everything youll need on an epic adventure. It sports new geometry and new levels of integration courtesy of component partner Syncros. The original Addict Gravel took Scott's famed aero-race bike template and adapted it to gravel. As first-generation aero-gravel racers go, it was one of the better examples. The new version represents a fresh take on handling geometry, with a more versatile frameset and more compliance. However, we're surprised that, alongside the announcement of the new Addict Gravel, Scott hasn't revealed a 32in-wheel option. We saw a very-close-to-production prototype of a 32in-wheel Scott gravel bike raced by Cameron Jones at this year's Unbound. Perhaps Scott is waiting on more industry support for the new wheel size, especially with aftermarket parts such as wheels and tyres.Rather than put more focus on aerodynamics, as its rivals Ridley, Argon 18 and BMC have done with their latest gravel bikes, Scott has opted to take the same route as Giant has with the latest Revolt Advanced SL.The weight is kept low, with the top-end HMX frame seeing a reduction by 75g to 794g compared to the previous generation. The lower-tier HMF version sees a 25g reduction to 990g. The Premium is the flagship Addict Gravel. Scott Bicycles The complete Addict Gravel Premium weighs 7.8kg (medium), with the 2,400 Gravel 40 tipping the scales at a claimed 8.7kg (medium).New geometry The new carbon cockpit is 10mm shorter than the previous bike's. Scott Bicycles The revised frame geometry features 57mm tyre clearances and a host of refinements to improve handling and comfort. The stack has been increased by 10mm over the previous generation and the reach is 10mm longer, although Scott has shortened the cockpit (stem length) by 10mm to compensate. The bottom bracket has been lowered to accommodate larger tyres and the fork rake has been increased to improve the handling over rougher terrain. The result is a longer front centre, placing the front wheel further ahead. According to Scott, this improves handling confidence at speed. Even with the upping of the tyre clearance to 57mm (2.25in), Scott has kept the rear chainstays the same length as the Scott Addict road bike at 425mm.Scott says this will make the Addict Gravel feel familiar to Addict riders, with an emphasis on stable, confident handling. The Addict Gravel comes in seven sizes, from XXS to XXL. Scott Bicycles To accommodate much larger tyres, Scott has created a new chainstay shape it calls threadlike chainstays. The chainstays narrow to only 8.5mm thick at the bottom bracket end to allow for ample clearance for larger-volume gravel tyres. The construction of both carbon framesets, the premium HMX and standard HMF, has been tweaked to provide more compliance. Scott says these very subtle changes at the most a 5% reduction in stiffness bring big changes, not only in comfort but also in traction. The frame has a little more compliance in the right places, enabling the bike to adapt to uneven surfaces better. Where a super-stiff frameset would skip across the surface, Scott says the new Addict will conform, making it more efficient and giving better grip. The down tube gets a large storage port and the bike includes a Syncros Save the Day kit. This houses an inner tube, tyre levers and a mini-pump within a rattle-free pouch. The down-tube storage has been increased and comes with a 'Save the Day' tool pouch. Scott Bicycles Accessories included The bottle mounts are positioned on the inner edge of the fork. Scott Bicycles The Syncros cockpits also hide a welcome secret. In place of standard bar-end plugs, the bar features plug tools containing Allen keys and a tubeless repair kit.Syncros also offers a range of dedicated frame bags, making use of the integrated bosses on the Addict Gravel frame. The fork doesnt feature the usual 'anything' mounts. Instead, Scott and Syncros have developed a combination of inner-surface mounts and new custom mounting brackets to position further back.According to Scott: By putting bottles in an optimised location, placing the weight distribution closer to the steering axis, we reduce inertia by 35%. This results in quicker and more linear handling even when the bike is fully equipped. The Syncros bars ends house a multi-tool and tubeless repair tool. Scott Bicycles The frame is compatible with the Syncros D-shaped carbon post, which can be paired with Scott's integrated rear light system as seen on the Addict RC. The Addict Gravel uses the D-Shaped carbon post and integrated light from the Addict RC. Scott Bicycles Up front, a new cockpit features a subtle flare combined with a forward sweep. Syncros says this improves wrist clearance when leaning hard into corners. The reach is reduced to make it easier to switch between the tops and the hoods. The shifter placement is neutral. Syncros says by introducing a short vertical section before the flare begins, it keeps the shifters in a vertical plane rather than pointing outwards as you find on most gravel bars. The shape of the drop has been tweaked to make for a better fit with your palms, too.Scott Addict Gravel range detailsThe Addict Gravel range consists of five models, from the Addict Gravel 40 up to the Addict Gravel Premium.Scott Addict Gravel Premium The 5,799 Addict Gravel Premium. 'It should be a very special, if emotional, occasion' memorial race to be held for Finlay Tarling in Wales
The final round of the Llandow Revival Series, a south Wales-based circuit racing league, will be held in memory of Finlay Tarling on 13 September. The 19-year-old Welshman was killed on stage eight of the Volta a Portugal on 14 August, when he was struck by a non-race vehicle driver that had entered the course. To celebrate Tarlings life, Maindy Flyers Cycling Club, the organisers of the Llandow Revival Series, are dedicating the sixth and final round of their league to the teenager, and will be raising money for the For Fin fund; the GoFundMe page was created in Tarlings memory to support young cyclists in Wales and has already gathered more than 96,000 in donations. Commenting on next Sunday's event, Maindy Flyers chair Mike Richards told Cycling Weekly: It will be a full day of racing and will be held in memory of Fin Tarling. The circuit owners have kindly waived the 500 hire fee so that we can donate it to the For Fin fund, and well also be raising money throughout the day. We are expecting a large turnout and what should be a very special, if emotional, occasion. The teenagers father, Michael Tarling, is currently listed among the entrants in the Category 3/4 open race. The day will count nine races in total, from under-eights up to elites, which will all be held on the 1.4km closed Llandow motor racing circuit, 15 miles west of Cardiff. Entrants can sign up via The Fin Tarling Llandow 2026 Round 6 event page on the British Cycling website. Fans have been urged to bring the gazebos, picnic tables and the family and make a day of it. A minutes applause was held on Wednesday in memory of Tarling ahead of the opening stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men, where his NSN Cycling team is competing. Two days after the teenagers death, his parents, Michael and Dawn Tarling, shared a joint post on Instagram saying their broken hearts will never be fixed. He was not only our son and brother but our best mate. Gentle, loving with the driest sense of humour we will miss him terribly, the parents wrote. Their eldest son, Josh, chose to start the Vuelta a Espaa on 22 August for his team Netcompany-Ineos to honour his younger brother. He placed third on stage ones individual time trial, before abandoning the race on stage six. Finlay Tarlings funeral will take place on 17 September and will be a private affair for family and friends.

'Big wheels, big tyres, let's roll!' Canyon builds LeBron James a custom 32-inch gravel bike
Earlier this week, LeBron James teased his newest Canyon bike on social media, and eagle-eyed observers were quick to note how proportional the 6-ft 9-in, 250-lb basketball star looked on it. That could mean only one thing: 32-inch wheels. And indeed, Canyon Bicycles has now confirmed that it has made a custom Grizl for James, pairing a custom 3XL frame with 32-inch DT Swiss wheels. It is Canyons first gravel bike built around the emerging wheel size, and James could hardly be better suited to testing it."Big wheels, big tyres, lets roll!" James said as he set out for a group ride on the new steed. "On most bikes Ive ridden, I was aware of the bike, where it didnt fit me, what I was working around. This is the first one that I didnt have to think about. Thats what I love most about riding. Its just you out there and everything else is gone."Despite its experimental construction, Canyon stated that the Grizl is "neither a prototype nor a display model." Instead, Canyon calls it a custom bike "engineered from the ground up for a 69 athlete whose size very few production frames are designed to accommodate."Canyons engineers eagerly welcomed the opportunity to design something specifically for the NBA star."It was the perfect excuse to explore the use of 32-inch wheels on an adventure bike, said Grizl Design Engineer Matej Smen. An Extra Extra Extra Large Grizl (Image credit: Canyon Bicycles)The bike is based on Canyons Grizl adventure platform, which James selected after what the company described as extensive deliberation, some "late night scrolling," and real-world testing."Gravel doesnt have to be Unbound. You dont need a 200-mile race to enjoy a gravel ride," said Riley, referencing the bikes versatility."Still, at the end of the day, the Grizl is a high-performance machine that perfectly supports where and how LeBron actually rides."Creating a performance gravel bike for an athlete of James proportions presented Canyons engineers with an unusual set of demands. Rather than stretching an existing Grizl frame, which tops out at size 2XL, the company developed new geometry and redesigned its carbon construction.Simply extending the tubes would have introduced too much flex, Smen explained. Canyon instead worked with specialist manufacturing partners in southern Germany, giving its engineers access to manufacturing methods that had not previously been available to them."This was an opportunity to make something genuinely cutting edge, and it took a full engineering team to do it," said Wolfgang Kohl, Canyons Lead Engineer, Gravel. The frameset was manufactured using a high-pressure autoclave, with the main triangle and rear stays moulded as a single structure without bonded sections."The parts came out so pristine that they required zero putty, zero grinding and no cosmetic paint," Smen said. That construction is reflected in the bikes finish. Raw carbon remains visible along the top tube and through the Canyon logo on the downtube.Canyon also manufactured custom CNC-machined Boost thru-axles and an in-house CNC-machined seat clamp, configured specifically to handle James power. For functionality, the bike features custom mounts throughout the bike, including the fork, to provide carrying capacity for equipment or additional hydration. At hand off, the bike was built up with a small front rack, just big enough to carry a basketball. A test of the 32-inch platform (Image credit: Canyon Bicycles)James new bike arrives as 32-inch wheels become one of the cycling industrys most discussed developments. Built around a 686mm rim diameter, the format has appeared on a growing collection of gravel and mountain bikes. Scott showcased its 32-inch RC Gravel prototype at Unbound Gravel, while Salsa, Stinner, BTCHN and Mosaic have also released gravel bikes around the larger platform this season.Component manufacturers are beginning to respond with dedicated tyres, wheels and inner tubes. James bike adds another significant piece to that emerging ecosystem, with Schwalbes yet-to-be-released 32" G-One RX gravel tyres wrapped around DT Swiss wheels.Proponents of the larger diameter point to its speed and ability to roll more easily over rocks, ruts and washboard surfaces. While the trade-offs include additional weight and rotational mass, as well as significant geometry challenges. For an exceptionally tall rider such as James, the biggest gain may be proportionality. Very tall cyclists can find themselves squeezed onto the largest conventional frame available, even when its wheelbase and front centre remain too short to distribute their weight optimally. Designing a custom frame around 32-inch wheels allows those dimensions to grow with the rider, potentially producing a bike that looks, fits and handles more naturally.James Grizl has a massive 680mm stack, 470mm reach and 1,201mm wheelbase, with 476mm chainstays - dimension you rarely see in mass produced bikes. Canyon says it's using the one-off build to evaluate new construction processes intended to shorten development timelines for future projects and refine the way it develops bikes for professional athletes and the wider public."We have a true Canyon innovation story," Smen added. "We have Canyons first 32-inch gravel bike. We have awesome features, we have a killer aesthetic, and we have a rider who has the right bike for the riding he does."Canyon was quick to note, however, that James bike is a one-of-one and not available for sale.James has been involved with Canyon since 2022 and is a minority shareholder in the German company. In 2024, the two launched "Find Your Freedom," a cycling advocacy campaign intended to encourage more people to ride. Canyon also began providing bicycles to the LeBron James Family Foundations I PROMISE Program in Akron, Ohio. The partnership builds on James lifelong connection to bicycles. Growing up in Akron, he rode to basketball practice, visited friends and explored the city on two wheels.
