- WWW.CYCLINGWEEKLY.COM'It's weird but I've got plenty of staff to look after me' rider finishes Tour of Britain in a team of oneIda Krickau walked onto the team presentation podium on the final day of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women dancing to the chorus of Jason Derulo's 'Ridin' Solo'.She waved to the fans, who clapped harder for her than anyone else, and laughed at the DJ's song choice. The previous day, when the Dane still had one team-mate by her side, she did the same when the speakers played 'Just the Two of Us'. But after all five of her O'Shea Red Chilli Bikes companions abandoned, Krickau was left to fend for herself on Sunday in Leamington Spa. Its weird, but Ive got plenty of staff now to look after me, the 20-year-old told Cycling Weekly ahead of the final stage. All of my team-mates are supporting me. Even though Im standing here alone, Ive got plenty of people behind me. Krickau set out on stage five with the aim to represent the jersey in the best possible way. She went on to finish the race 69th overall, almost 32 minutes down on the winner Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal). "I was really looking forward to being here with my team, and the whole experience. But in the end, it's been a good race, and I take it as it is," Krickau smiled. A post shared by Cycling Weekly (@cyclingweeklymagazine)A photo posted by on O'Shea Red Chilli Bikes were one of four British Continental teams competing at last week's Tour of Britain Women, alongside DAS-Hutchinson, Handsling Alba Development and Smurfit Westrock. Last autumn, all four outfits feared they would no longer be allowed to take part in their home race, after the UCI revised its rules to limit WorldTour events to WorldTour and ProTour squads. They were later invited to start due to unfulfilled team slots. "We're making the most out of it," said Krickau, who was racing her first multi-day WorldTour event. Half of the 24 riders on British Continental teams that began the race in Cockermouth on Wednesday went on to finish Sunday's stage in Leamington Spa. One team manager put the abandons down to the gulf between the WorldTour and Continental teams, which continues to swell as budgets at the top of the sport grow. Still, marquee races like the Tour of Britain Women provide a crucial platform for third-tier riders to gain race experience, and for teams to show off their sponsors. That's why, when Krickau took the start line alone in Leamington Spa, she did so with the determination to prove that teams like hers "belong in this race". Her solo ride may not have won her any medals, but it showed heart and tenacity, and gained her a host of new fans.0 Comments 0 Shares 202 Views

- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMI tried the new Insta360 X6 its faster, sharper and creates edits for me as it sleepsInsta360 already had the top spot in the 360-camera field with the powerful X5 and the value-packed X4. Now theyve launched the X6 with a big leap in image quality, thanks to the custom Sony 1/1.1in square sensors that deliver full 1in frame, 360-degree imaging. Thats an upgrade of 33% in sensor area over the pro-level X5 and four times the light intake, too.Ive been using the X6 for a few weeks now and the upgrade in clarity and colour contrast in low light conditions is a big step up from the X4 I was using before.More powerful than ever The X6 is more compact than its predecessors. Warren Rossiter / Ourmedia Powering the new camera is a Triple AL chip, with an 8-core 3.3ghz 4nm processor and twin-imaging chips. Insta360 says that provides a jump of 500% in computing power over then X5. The more powerful chip is also 35% more efficient for longer batter run times. You can see some of the results of the new X6 is our upcoming Bike of the Year videos over on our YouTube channel, where we used the X6 to capture plenty of footage for our road bikes and gravel bikes.Insta360 also say the X6 is their first camera to have native in-camera Dolby Vision, which analyses dynamic metadata to set contrast and brightness for every shot. When this is paired with 10-bit colour and more than 1.07 billion recordable colours, Insta360 say the X6 delivers a professional colour profile straight from the camera.AI Director The foldable selfie stick can be used with a clip-in remote. Warren Rossiter / Ourmedia Speaking of straight out of the camera, Ive been impressed with the X6s new AI Director feature.Previously, you could use the excellent Insta360 app to generate a cut of a 360 clip using AI. This required you to have the camera connected to your phone and it can be quite power intensive on both phone and camera. But the new AI Director takes your recently recorded footage and creates an AI-driven directors cut when the camera is asleep and plugged into charge.Compact size You can control the camera remotely via the new foldable selfie stick. Warren Rossiter / Ourmedia On top of the image quality, The X6s load times and processing times when transferring to the app are noticeably faster than before. Its also a much smaller unit. The previous X models were quite tall and slim at 46mm x 124.5mm x 38.2mm. But the X6 is 50mm x 100mm x 40mm.That does make a difference if you want to mount the camera to your handlebar or helmet.3-in-1 camera performance The mini remote has a joystick to make the X6 a virtual gimbal camera. Warren Rossiter / Ourmedia Alongside the 360-degree twin lens recording, the X6 can be used as a single-lens action cam (GoPro style) with a range of accessories including an action cam style chest mount. It can now also be used as a subject-tracking Gimbal camera, all accessed straight from the menu screen on the camera.Using InstaFrame 2.0 you can use the camera to lock on to a subject and auto track. That's great for following a cyclist, or, like me, recording my dog running ahead. You can also make use of the Gimbal feature with the new selfie stick remote kit. The small stand-alone remote can be mounted to your handlebar or slot into the selfie stick. It has a built-in mini joystick so you can control the camera like a Gimbal which keeps the camera steady and smooth, cancelling out shaking hands or bumps. Standalone action camera Gimbals are priced around 200. So, the fact that the X6 can do this virtually is a big plus.Insta360 X6 first impressions and pricing The foldable selfie stick has a builtt in tripod stand. Warren Rossiter / Ourmedia Im hugely impressed with the performance of the X6 compared to the X4 I was using before. The clarity of the image is impressive, especially in low light conditions. The new larger battery (2600mAh) means I can record for nearly two-and-half hours in the highest quality, 8k at 30fps in full 360-degree video. The camera charges quickly too and the speed at which it transfers and exports from camera to phone is a big leap over the older models. The mini remote comes with a bar mount. Warren Rossiter / Ourmedia The $699 / 619 / 699 price tag for the standard bundle includes the camera, battery, USB-C cable, and protective pouch. The Road Cycling bundle steps up to 743 / $743 and swaps the standard battery for an Xtreme battery and adds a bike computer mount, bike kit, invisible self stick and lens caps. The 2 in 1 foldable selfie stick with remote to turn the camera into a gimbal camera is available separately at 54.99 / $54.99.0 Comments 0 Shares 244 Views

- BIKERUMOR.COMInternal Hard Piped Titanium Hydraulic Brake Lines Make the Ogle v3 MTB the Final BossFor the true bike nerd, it doesnt get much better than Ogle Designs. Josh Ogles work is just so meticulous, so detail oriented, and yes, outrageously over the top. His latest work shows that more than ever with a mountain bike that borrows parts from a tiltrotor military aircraft to take internal brake routing to the next level. It would be easy to look at the Ogle Designs v3 and miss the most insane feature about it. Unless youre specifically looking for the brake line fittings mounted to the frame, youd probably thing it has a standard brake hose routed internally through the frame like any other modern mountain bike. This titanium pipe replaces the internal brake lines. And yes, Josh made that watch as well he is technically a Swiss-Certified watch maker. No, no, no. This is a show bike, so everything is next level. Including the brake routing. As the story goes, Josh was inspired by Sean from Soulcraft who had a bike with hard lines in the frame back at Interbike around the year 2000. Josh bent brake lines for race cars for years, and decided he wanted to make internal brake lines for a mountain bike. So he found 1/8 titanium tubes with the perfect internal diameter to act as hard-piped brake lines inside the frame. This tubing just happened to be used on the V22 Osprey Titlrotor military transport vehicle, and is rated to 4,200 psi. Hes been able to test the system to 3,500 psi in his shop, but doesnt have the equipment to test all the way up to 4,200 but it should be more than adequate for MTB use. By welding the tubing to fittings inside the frame, Josh was able to attach brake lines directly the frame fittings, eliminating the stretch of housing through the frame. There is a bit of housing to run the line from the front triangle to the chain stay, where it is again hard-piped through the stay back to the rear brake. When asked, he hasnt done the math to see if it actually saves any weight. And it requires more fittings, and more work to set up initially, but damn, if it isnt cool. The v3 frame also represents the final changes Josh wanted to make to the design, which is how it earned the nickname the Final Boss. And what better way to represent that than with a retro 8-bit video game inspired motif. Typical of Ogle Designs, this is much more than a finish with video game inspired details printed right into the titanium components. The lugs are still designed by Josh (Ogle) and printed by Silca, and the new frame features redesigned lugs for better mud shedding and an updated internal seatpost clamp that increases the clamping area and works with less torque. There are clever details wherever you look on an Ogle, and this one is no different. The headset cap on this bike is a 1:500,000 scale map of Durango, CO that takes an entire hour just to machine. If you look closely, Josh can point out the location of his house and shop on the top cap. Josh made his own headset and bottom bracket for the build, as well as an Asteroids inspired chainring. As Josh put it, Asteroids is the perfect game since it doesnt have an up and down, it works no matter where the chainring is located. At the back, there is an Ogle designed derailleur stiffener, which he says is the only design that actually stiffens and straightens the derailleur to accommodate variation in UDH frames. Due to the 3d-printed nature of the lugs, the v3 can be made with completely custom geometry (within the constraints of the suspension system), as well as custom touches to the lugs themselves. As a result, expect the bike to sell for around $27,500 as built. joshogledesign.com0 Comments 0 Shares 261 Views

- IRISHCYCLE.COM80% of children never cycle to school when 70% of parents want them to after generational declineNearly 80% of children never cycle to school, but an overwhelming 70% of parents say that cycling is their preferred method for the school run thats according to a survey from insurer RedClick carried out by IrelandThinks in July. The release of the survey prompted cycling to school to be covered this morning by both RTEs Today with David McCullagh and NewsTalks The Claire Byrne Show The first includes input from Jo Linehan, sustainability journalist, and Martina Callanan, a spokesperson for the Irish Cycling Campaign, and the latter includes a discussion with Ciaran Cannon, president of Cycling Ireland, and Eoin Ryan, a co-ordinator of the Salt Hill Cycle Bus. Both discussions give some different perspectives. Of the survey respondents, only 5% of their children cycle to school daily, with another 8% cycling occasionally. Of the parents who responded to the survey, 81% said their children cycle less than they did at the same age.According to RedClick, respondents said the distance to school (54%), heavy school bags (41%), unpredictable weather (39%) and a lack of confidence cycling with their children (22%) were the reasons respondents said that their children do not cycle to school. With secondary school students, social and personal factors present additional barriers. The reasons parents gave for their secondary school children not cycling included distance (54%), unsuitable school uniforms (49%), a lack of confidence cycling(46%), and concerns over the impact on personal appearance (42%).When interviewed on Newstalk, Eoin Ryan welcomed RedClicks interest in this area, including their past surveys, but said he thinks the options for why children did not cycle did not clearly enough include an option regarding the danger of our roads for cycling. In its press release, the company said: When asked what would encourage a higher take-up of cycling, 48% identified additional safer, improved cycling infrastructure as the single most effective intervention, while 28% called for the introduction of a targeted Bike to School scheme, similar to the Bike to Work scheme.Lisa Silver, RedClicks commercial director, called the decrease in cycling to school a generational decline while families want to cycle to school, practical issues and lack of confidence remain significant barriers. She added: The results of this survey show that targeted bike purchase schemes, safety courses, and continued investment in cycling infrastructure could make a measurable impact in enabling children to cycle to school. What did the last Census say? While theres still a long road to recover the 1980s levels of cycling (when the population has grown in the same time), the recovery seems to have started for primary schools. There has been a stark improvement in the number of secondary school students; its even a longer road to go to recover.0 Comments 0 Shares 477 Views
