Tadej Pogaar will race the 2026 Vuelta a Espaa, UAE Team Emirates-XRG confirmed on Monday morning, as he seeks to complete the Grand Tour triple.The 27-year-old, who won his fifth Tour de France title last month, will be on the start line of the Spanish Grand Tour for the first time since 2019, when he finished third. Just three riders have won the Tour and Vuelta in the same year previously: Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault and Chris Froome.In a post on social media UAE wrote: "Its true - hes coming back. Tadej Pogaar to La. Vuelta, confirmed."The former podium finisher returns to the Vuelta for the first time in seven years, leading a stellar lineup for our final Grand Tour of the season."The Slovenian will be joined by Joo Almeida, Domen Novak, Ivo Oliveira, Pavel Sivakov, Pablo Torres, Kevin Vermaerke and Jay Vine in Spain. The race begins on Saturday 22 August in Monaco, before a three weeks which is mostly spent in the south of Spain in Andalusia, with a finale in Granada. "Im excited to say Im going back to La Vuelta. It was my first ever Grand Tour back in 2019 and an amazing experience. Former Giro d'Italia stage winner Danilo Napolitano has been hit with a 20-year ban after being found guilty of anti-doping violations at Salus Ciclista Seregno, the junior team where he was a director. It was regarded as one of Italy's elite junior outfits.The president of the club, Marco Moretto, was banned for eight years.Reports have linked Napolitano to the UAE L'Imad Women's WorldTour team, where he was working at the service course as a warehouseman and staff assistant until recently, according to a report by road.cc. The team, which goes into next week's Tour de France Femmes with one of the strongest squads, has denied all knowledge of Napolitano's doping links.Both Napolitano and Moretto had been provisionally suspended earlier this year, with the official verdicts now delivered.Napolitano, who is now 45, was a professional from 2004 to 2017, riding for teams including Katusha and Lampre the Italian team that would ultimately become UAE Team Emirates in 2017. He retired after four seasons at Wanty-Gobert. He rode six Grand Tours, and won a bunch sprint in the 2007 Giro d'Italia ahead of Robbie McEwen and Alessandro Petacchi. He also won three editions of the Coppa Bernocchi one-day race.He was charged with violating articles 2.6 and 2.8 of the World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA) code. The first of these relates to possession of prohibited substances or use of prohibited methods; the second the administration or attempted administration. Moretto was charged with articles relating to complicity and burden of proof.Usually these charges would result in a maximum four-year ban, but because of Salus Ciclista Seregno's youth status, this was increased. The bans were handed down by Italy's anti-doping authority, NADO Italia and mean that Napolitano will not be able to have any involvement with cycle sport until 7 April, 2046.

The speed bump came out of nowhere. Barrelling at 60kph towards the one-kilometre-to-go banner on stage two of the Tour de Suisse, Urka igart was feeling confident. She darted out of a chase group, kicked ahead, and began closing the gap to a tearaway rider. The next moment, her body hit the ground like a rag doll. I have an image in my head where my bike is flying to one side and Im flying to the other, she tells Cycling Weekly. But the next things are very blurry. The diagnosis could have been so much worse. Unconscious along the finishing straight, igart was rushed to hospital in Locarno, where the doctors diagnosed her with a broken jaw. Just six weeks on, however, shes racing at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, crowning a remarkable six-week recovery. Remarkable? she smiles, and tries to play it down. I dont know about that. She then takes us back to the beginning. The last thing I remember [from before the crash] is, because the men raced after us, Tadej [Pogaar, my partner] and his UAE team bus was going to the parking on the left side of the road, so I moved to the left side of the group and I was waving to the bus. I remember the last person I saw was their soigneur waving back at me. I saw there was one girl in front, and I was thinking, Ok, were not supposed to be pulling or attacking or whatever, but just let me close this gap and we can roll to the finish.Then came the speed bump, which jolted igart through the air. The 29-year-old's sports director, Jolien DHoore, was at the scene within minutes. Ive never seen something like this in my life, she says. She was unconscious for a few minutes. As soon as I saw that, I started running back to the team car, and then the other DS came to Urka. It was really scary something I will never forget. (Image credit: Getty Images)Due to the simple nature of the fracture, igart was fortunate to not require surgery. That doesnt mean she wasnt in pain, though. They gave me quite a lot of medication to keep me from moving, the Slovenian says. I was trying to show them I was in pain by sticking my fingers inside my mouth. But I have to say that, after that, I bounced back really quickly. Of course, we did a lot of concussion tests, we started slowly, but I had no symptoms, other than a small fracture at the mandibular joint.In the days after the crash, igart flew to Belgium to see a doctor, who checked her jaw was correctly aligned. Everything seemed stable, so she was given the green light to begin training again, at first on the turbo trainer at home. Then I started pushing the doctor to let me go outside slowly, and it was up from there, she says. (Image credit: Getty Images)Eleven days passed before igarts wheels touched the tarmac again. She began with an easy ride it was all very touch and go; I wasnt sure how a speed bump or a little hole in the road was going to move my jaw but everything went smoothly. All of a sudden, racing the Tour de France looked like a possibility again. At the start of July, igart flew to Tignes to join her team-mates at their pre-Tour altitude camp. The team chefs chopped up her food so she didnt have to chew it very much. Out on the road, not only was she able to keep up, but with the determination to restore her fitness before the Grand Dpart in Switzerland, she ended up finding some of her best form. Her shape is incredible, says DHoore. Shes really at full capacity. I would say shes even better than in Suisse. Also her morale and everything, shes really good. Shes here in a support role for Kim [Le Court-Pienaar], and she enjoys it so much. Theres no pressure on her. She will be there on the climbs, and thats what she likes the most.In the end, I think she was very lucky. I think she had a guardian angel with her. igart agrees. On the eve of the race, she shared a long Instagram post saying she had an angel looking out for me from above. Shes now back on solid foods, pain free, and enjoying the carnival of the Tour her third Grand Tour of the season.Now its six weeks, they say its as stable as its going to get, so its safe to race, she says.
