New Whyte Sythe full-suspension kids' MTB gets 135mm travel to open up more trails for young rippers
Whyte looks to be bringing big-hitting enduro capability to younger riders, with its new unreleased Sythe 27 full-suspension kids' mountain bike. The bike features 135mm of suspension travel at the rear, with a 150mm fork up front, which should be plenty for most younger riders. We spotted the bike on Whyte's stand at Ard Rock Enduro, with Whyte teasing it ahead of its launch at the end of next month. The British brand is known for producing high-quality kids' bikes, with the new Sythe 27 joining the hardtail Secta and T140 27 in its line-up. The Sythe 27 comes with a dropper post. Nick Clark / Our Media It is based on Whyte's Sythe enduro bike and features the same frame design as the larger model, with smaller proportions for shorter riders. As the name would suggest, the bike rolls on 27.5in wheels, although Whyte representatives on the stand at Ard Rock said it can also run a mini-mullet setup with a 26in wheel on the rear. The price is expected to be north of 2,000 and the spec reflects that. A Psylo Gold air fork should give good sensitivity for lighter riders. Nick Clark / Our Media Up-front, there's a 150mm RockShox Psylo fork, with a Deluxe rear shock sitting in the frame. Shimano's CUES derailleur takes care of shifting. Nick Clark / Our Media A Shimano CUES derailleur features on the rear of the bike, with a Whyte-branded crankset completing the drivetrain. The G2 brakes have reach and contact adjust, which should help when setting them up for smaller hands. Nick Clark / Our Media The Sythe 27 gets SRAM G2 brakes, with Whyte's own-brand wheels booted in Maxxis tyres.

The yellow jersey winner receives 500,000 almost a quarter of the entire prize pot while second place earns 200,000, third earns 100,000, and the winnings diminish down to 3,800 for 10th place. There are also large sums on offer for the winners of each of the other three jerseys green, polka dot and white. Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) took home the green jersey as the winner of the points classification, and netted 25,000. The same sum went to Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) as the King of the Mountains. Carapaz also received 20,000 for winning the overall combativity award. Del Toros white jersey victory, as the best young rider, yielded the same amount. Likewise, the team classification, awarded to the team with the best cumulative time of its top three-riders in the GC, carries a significant pay-out. Lidl-Trek earned 50,000 for winning the competition, while UAE Team Emirates-XRG received 30,000 for second, and Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe 20,000 for third. Prize money is also awarded after every stage based on each riders placing: 11,000 for the stage winner, 5,500 for second place, 2,800 for third, all the way down to 300 for 20th. Riders also have the chance to win between 200 and 5,000 for being first over certain climbs. Carapaz, for example, was awarded 5,000 for winning the Souvenir Henri Desgrange, the award given to the rider who summits the highest peak of the race, in this case the Col du Galibier on stage 20, which topped out at 2,642m.Meanwhile, Pogaar earned the same sum for winning the Souvenir Jacques Goddet, having been the first rider over the top of the Col du Tourmalet on stage six. All prize money is traditionally shared around a team, rather than going to the individual winners.
