A bicycle library service has started in Swords, Co Dublin it allows people to try an electric-assisted bicycle, or e-bike for short, for up to three months to see if they might be the right fit for them.As previously reported, bike libraries have been set up in different areas, including Ballymun in Dublin City and Limerick City, as well as at a number of large employers such as St Jamess Hospital, UCD, Diageo, and Dublin City Council.This week, Fingal County Council, which is now offering the service to Swords residents for free, explained: The programme allows participants to borrow an e-bike free of charge for up to three months, giving them the opportunity to experience the benefits of e-bikes before considering purchasing one.The council said that a range of e-bike types are available to suit different needs, including front-loader cargo bikes, longtail cargo bikes, folding e-bikes, and standard e-bikes.Fingal added: This programme aims to help people discover how cycling can be used for commuting, local journeys, leisure, and reducing reliance on the car.The service is being provided for the council by Bleeper, and sign-up details can be found at forms.bleeperactive.com.
