Teenage passenger on e-bike in critical condition after crash Garda are seeking witnesses or footage of a serious single-vehicle collision where a passenger on what is described as an e-bike in Portlaoise, Co Laois, last night at around 11am.A Garda Press Office spokesperson said: Shortly after 11pm, emergency services and Garda attended the scene of a serious collision involving an e-bike on the N80, Stradbally Road, Portlaoise. A male passenger in his early teens sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.The child is currently receiving treatment at CHI Temple Street, where his condition is understood to be critical.Its unclear at this point whether the vehicle involved was an electric bicycle, moped, or motorcycle. The driver, an adult male in his late teens, received medical assessment at the scene. Its understood no other vehicle was involved. The scene has been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the road has since reopened, the spokesperson said. The spokesperson added: Garda are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users who were travelling on the Stradbally Road in Portlaoise, from St Peter & Pauls Cemetery to St Fintans Hospital, between 11:00pm and 11:30pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), are asked to make this footage available to Garda.Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on (057) 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.E-bike is the term used by the Department of Transport and other State bodies to describe a bicycle which is a pedal-assisted electric bike.Pedal-assistedmeans the electric motor stops providing power when you stop pedalling.
