On June 14th Limerick Racecourse hosted the Shanahans Family Foods Raceday Greenmount Cycling Academys first raceday of 2026 at their home base.Action began at 10am with the U8 and U10 race for boys and girls. These are the stars of the future. The weather was warm with a light breeze on the 2km oval track.After the youth races on the Ambulance track, racing moved on to a second course on the 600m hilly Horsebox carpark lap. The U12s, U14s and U16s took part in elimination races that were the highlight of the day.In the combined C1/C2/C3 handicap race at 2pm, all the categories were spread over one lap at the start, with Stephen Gilman (OLeary Stone) fresh from winning two C3 races in the last week trying in vain to gain a lap on the C1s. The race came together at the halfway point, with the inevitable Paul Kennedy (Burren CC) attack taking him clear. Behind, Mike Storan (West Clare CC), Keith Walsh (Greenmount CA) and Daniel Lynch (OLeary Stone) broke free but were reeled in with 6 laps to go.Arnaud Dumoulin (OLeary Stone CC) then escaped the bunch with 4 laps to go and, while he was almost caught over the final laps, he powered ahead to seal 2nd place.
