Scheduled for July 20th 2024, the koda Ring of Clare is an unmissable event in Irelands summer cycling calendar, drawing cyclists from right across Ireland who want to enjoy the koda cycling experience. This event forms part of the acclaimed koda Celtic Cycling Series, offering both seasoned and amateur cyclists a unique opportunity to explore the scenic landscapes of County Clare in style!Overview and RoutesThe event will commence in Ennis, with participants having the option to tackle two different routes:160km RouteThis longer and more challenging route is crafted to immerse riders in the rugged beauty of Clares coastline and countryside. The journey begins in Ennis, before moving swiftly towards the coastal regions:Coastal Stretch: Cyclists will first encounter the Wild Atlantic Way, renowned for its dramatic cliffs and ocean vistas. This segment includes riding through picturesque villages where riders will experience a fair share of challenging ascents and descents.Loop Head Peninsula: As riders curve around the peninsula, they are treated to panoramic views of the Atlantic. The Loop Head is famous for its lighthouse and serves as a midway point where cyclists can enjoy some of the most unspoiled seascapes in Ireland.Shannon Estuary Way: On the return leg, the route follows along the newly developed Shannon Estuary Way, providing a mix of landscapes and even an opportunity to go dolphin spotting! This part of the route is less hilly compared to earlier sections, allowing for a faster pace as participants head back towards Ennis.120km RouteThis slightly shorter route still captures much of the scenic allure of the longer course but is tailored for those looking for a somewhat less challenging ride:Estuary and Coastal Views: Participants will enjoy sections of the Shannon Estuary Way earlier in their ride, accompanied by serene views of where the Shannon River meets the Atlantic. The route also includes several stretches along the coast, offering riders a well-earned dose of sea air!Return to Ennis: The route circles back to Ennis earlier than the 160km course, allowing riders to finish with enough energy to enjoy the post-race festivities. Both routes are designed to showcase some of Clares most amazing landscapes, with a grandstand koda finish back in Ennis where a warm local welcome awaits the riders.Experience Clare: What to Do and SeeCo. Clare is a treasure trove of activities and attractions, ideal for Ring of Clare participants and spectators who would like to immerse themselves in Irelands natural beauty and rich cultural tapestry. For nature lovers and outdoor adventurers, the Cliffs of Moher are a must-see, offering awe-inspiring views of the Atlantic Ocean from heights of up to 700 ft. The area also features several coastal walks and trails.Another key attraction is the Burren National Park, which presents a starkly beautiful limestone landscape peppered with rare flora, ancient dolmens and meandering walking paths. This area is not only a geological wonder but also a paradise for botanists and historians alike, with its unique ecosystem and prehistoric sites. For those interested in historic sites, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park provide a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era.
