Parkinsons UK is the foundations first funding partner. It will help to provide training to cycling coaches and volunteers, as well as identify how cycling can help those with the disease and raising awareness of the disease in the wider community. The partnership aims to provide cycling activities tailored to those with Parkinsons. The partners point to research suggesting Parkinsons symptoms can be alleviated by around 2.5 hours of physical activity per week, which can help to improve balance, strength and mobility. There are also benefits to sufferers confidence and mental wellbeing. Around 2.5 hours of exercise per week has been found to alleviate Parkinson's disease symptoms. Parkinsons UK Cycling helps me to manage some of my Parkinsons symptoms and Ive noticed an increase in my fitness levels, plus everyday tasks have become easier. After my diagnosis I struggled with anxiety but cycling and walking have contributed to a big improvement in my wellbeing, says Graham, who was diagnosed with the disease in October 2017, aged 55. British Cycling already has its Limitless disability and paracycling project, which has been found to help people with Parkinsons. A pilot project at four UK locations will look to build on this, testing and refining the approach and helping sufferers to build cycling into their health journey. According to Anna Castiaux, physical activity programme lead at Parkinsons UK: Being active can be one of the best ways to live well with Parkinsons and Im delighted to have agreed this new partnership with British Cycling. Whether youre a keen cyclist or youre just getting started, my hope is that this new offer will also allow more people with Parkinsons to enjoy the physical, social and wellbeing benefits of cycling, she continues. To be part of the pilot project, clubs, organisations and people with Parkinsons are encouraged to contact the British Cycling Foundation at foundation@britishcycling.org.uk.0 Comments 0 Shares 256 Views

- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMBritish brand launches chainless tricycle where pedalling is seamlessly converted into electrical propulsionFalmouth-based IceTrikes has launched a ride-by-wire recumbent tricycle, where pedalling generates electric power for the rear-mounted hub motor. The system eliminates the chain, which is often an awkward component of recumbent bike design because it needs to be ultra-long to turn the rear wheels, while front-drive systems have to deal with rotation when steering. IceTrikes system also eliminates gears and the associated maintenance, and is claimed to be clean and silent, with no maintenance needed for up to 50,000km.It's a similar idea to the Schaeffler system we covered in 2022. Pedalling generates electricity to feed the battery and motor. Regenerative braking helps conserve the energy youve generated by pedalling, with IceTrikes claiming you can add up to 25% to your range. Theres built-in anti-theft technology, and a control panel and phone app to help you manage the system. IceTrikes claims a 0 to 20mph speed of less than 3 seconds, while the system changes the trikes speed based on your pedalling speed. The trike will also reverse if you backpedal. A 700Wh battery under the seat stores your generated power and feeds it to the rear-hub motor. The motor itself has 75Nm of torque and the 250 watts of power output thats the legal maximum for ebikes in the UK. Theres a 700Wh battery located under the seat to back up your input and five power settings, offering a boost of up to 400% of your input. You can order the new chainless drive tricycle now from IceTrikes on its Adventure, Adventure HD and Sprint X Tour models.0 Comments 0 Shares 254 Views
