- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMVittorias graphene-infused Peyote and Mezcal tyres are now wider, faster and lighterVittoria has released updates to its Mezcal and Peyote cross-country tyres, with lighter weights and increased 2.4in widths now available. The new mountain bike tyres will also be available in the brand's new Race Formulation, which uses a 60 TPI casing and a graphene and silica compound for increased wet-weather grip and suppleness. The tyres feature black or brown sidewalls. The29x2.4in black-sidewall tyres weigh a claimed 740g and the brown-wall tyres weigh 10g less.Vittoria says its professional racers have been using the new tyres for the past two seasons, picking up a UCI World Championship XC title along the way.It is now offering the tyres to the public for 64.99.Vittoria PeyoteThe Peyote tyre is available with black or brown sidewalls. - VittoriaVittoria says it has given the Peyote a new tread pattern, designed for hardpack and fine loose terrain, sitting in between its Terreno and Mezcal tyres.A low-profile alternating centre ribbon on the tyre is said to deliver more speed and grip compared to the previous model.Vittoria claims the new Peyote is 4 per cent faster than the closest Brand-A competitor, based on telemetry results from testing it conducted when developing the tyre. The V-formation is designed to clear debris from the centre. - VittoriaThe brand says the V-formation of the mid-tread digs through loose terrain and has plenty of space to evacuate debris. The V-formation tapers towards the side-tread, which is said to give the tyre a responsive and predictable feel.Vittoria's Peyote has been seen unbadged at the UCI World Championship XC for the past two years. - VittoriaVittoria says the Race Formulation gives the tyre a 6 per cent improvement in rolling performance compared to the previous model, as well as an 11 per cent increase in grip. This translates to an average speed increase of around 0.75kph in XC racing, according to Vittoria.Vittoria MezcalThe tread pattern for the Mezcal remains the same. - VittoriaTo complement the new Peyote, Vittoria now offers a wider 2.4in Mezcal tyre. With XC courses becoming more demanding, weve seen riders using increasingly wide tyres to fend off punctures and absorb the rougher terrain some up to 2.5in.The brown-sidewall tyres are said to be 10g lighter than the black version. - VittoriaWhile the Mezcal appears to be visibly the same, it too is now available with Vittorias Race Formulation. This is said to give the Mezcal a 3 per cent improvement in rolling performance, while providing increased durability and deformation thanks to the 60 TPI casing.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 96 مشاهدة
- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMPOC introduces the Procen Air a time trial helmet for road racingPOC has announced the Procen Air, a new aero road helmet heavily inspired by time trial helmets.Developed over several years, and debuted at this years Tour Down Under, POC claims the Procen Air offers a significant performance advantage over its previous aero road helmet, the Ventral. The Procen Airs design shares many similarities with the brand's recently launched time trial helmet, the Procen TT.As with that helmet, POC claims the Procen Air harnesses the Venturi effect to improve both ventilation and aerodynamic efficiency.Notably, the Procen Air also partially covers your ears, though POC says it has gone to great lengths to ensure hearing and peripheral vision are not affected.Available now, the POC Procen Air costs 360 / $400 / 400.Time-trial inspiredPOC's latest aero road helmet was heavily inspired by its time trial helmet, the Procen TT.According to POC, the Procen Air was designed with the goal of offering all the watt savings of a TT helmet without compromising safety or a riders ability to hear and see.In fact, POC goes as far as to claim the helmet can improve a riders vision and hearing. This is due to the Procen Airs integrated visor, which is said to provide a wide, unobstructed field of view, and the partial ear coverings, which are claimed to reduce turbulence around the riders ears.POC says the latter will result in most riders hearing more clearly.POC says CFD modelling showed the three prominent vents at the front of the helmet improve both cooling and aerodynamic performance. - POCIn terms of aerodynamic performance, the Procen Air functions in a similar way to the Procen TT.As with that helmet, the Procen Air was designed using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) modelling, alongside wind-tunnel and real-world aero testing. As on the Procen TT, the three ventilation holes at the front of the Procen Air are said to drain the high-pressure zone, reducing the build-up of stagnant air and additional air resistance that a rider needs to push through.Air is channelled in through the ventilation holes up front, and exits through a series of exhaust ports at the rear. - POCThis airflow is then channelled through the helmet, helping to cool the rider, before exiting through a series of large exhaust channels at the rear of the helmet.According to data gathered by POC and its sponsored professional team, EF Pro Cycling (which has teams in both the mens and womens peloton), the Procen Air showed gains ranging from 5 to 18 watts compared to the Ventral, measured at speeds from 30 to 60kph.POC says the Procen Air offers significant performance gains compared to its more traditional aero road helmet, the Ventral. - POCPOC hasnt provided any data comparing it to popular aero road helmets from other manufacturers.Offering a real-world example, though, Peter Schep, a performance director at EF Pro Cycling, claims the Procen Air saved Alberto Bettiol well over 10 seconds during his successful, 30km-long solo breakaway at MilanoTorino in early March.POC Procen Air availability, specification and pricingPOC's Procen Air is available in white or black, with mirrored and clear visors included - POCThe POC Procen Air is available now in two colours Hydrogen White or Uranium Black Matte. Both mirrored and clear visors are included. It costs 360 / $400 / 400 and comes in three sizes; small (50-56cm), medium (54-59cm) and large (56-61cm).Sadly, the bright pink helmets worn by POCs sponsored professional teams, EF Education-EasyPost and EF Education-Cannondale, arent available.POCs sponsored professional teams get these special-edition pink helmets. In terms of weight, POC claims a size-medium Procen Air weighs 350g. Perhaps unsurprisingly, thats a fair bit more than most traditional aero helmets.Specializeds S-Works Evade 3 weighs 272g, for example, while Treks Ballista MIPS weighs 268g (both in a size-medium).Analysis was this always the logical next step? Was a time-trial style helmet for road racing inevitable? - POCGiven the onslaught of aerodynamic optimisations in professional cycling in recent years, its something of a wonder a helmet like the Procen Air hasnt come sooner. After all, despite the UCIs technical regulations being infamously prescriptive about some things, the rules surrounding helmets are surprisingly lax.Beyond performance concerns around ventilation, comfort and weight, there are as far as we can tell no rules preventing a rider from taking to the start line of a mass-start road race in a full-on TT helmet.Indeed, we often see riders in mass-start events on the track wearing short-tail time trial helmets, such as the Kask Bambino or POC Cerebel, for example.Kask's short-tail Bambino helmet is often used in mass-start races on the track. - Joe Branston / Immediate MediaDespite the protestations of some traditionalists, other bits of time trial tech such as skinsuits, narrow handlebars and big chainrings have been rapidly adopted by road cyclists in recent years. As mentioned above, even Alberto Bettiol a rider so old-school hes yet to fully commit to using a power meter in every race has been wearing the Procen Air in select races this season. In that context, a helmet that takes aerodynamic inspiration from a TT helmet makes perfect sense. There may well be compromises to a helmet such as the Procen Air, whether in terms of ventilation, weight or comfort, but if the claimed performance gains stand up to scrutiny we wouldnt be surprised to see other brands follow suit.Indeed, Kask appears to be in the latter stages of development for a similar helmet, which partially covers a riders ears.POC's Tempor time trial helmet is more than a decade old, but its influence is still felt today. - Simon Bromley / Immediate MediaPerhaps, though, its no surprise it should be POC that makes the first leap in this area. Its Tempor time trial helmet was more than a decade ahead of its time when it launched back in 2012, after all.Of course, the question remains whether helmets such as this can be a commercial success outside the realms of elite sport. Thanks to its unorthodox looks, the Tempor struggled to catch on beyond a few smart riders who did their own aero testing, after all. With everyday riders increasingly versed in the impact of aerodynamics on performance, though, the landscape certainly seems primed for a product such as this.Could the Procen Air mark a new era for aero road helmets, then? Its certainly possible.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 91 مشاهدة

- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMNew RockShox Psylo fork borrows from top-flight Pike and Lyrik at half the priceRockShox has released the Psylo, an entry-level mountain bike fork range for trail riders, alongside a host of updated parts. The Psylo line-up will include two models, with only the top-of-the-range Psylo Gold RC available to buy aftermarket, priced at 580 / $539 / 645.Despite the relatively low cost, RockShox says the Psylo is inspired by the technology used inside its Pike and Lyrik forks. The Psylo uses the new Isolator Damper, which is said to take inspiration from the high-end Charger 3 damper, and will also appear on an updated Dominion enduro fork. The Rudy Ultimate XPLR gravel suspension fork also receives a damper upgrade in the form of the Charger Race Day 2, which is said to be RockShoxs lightest performance-driven damper to date.RockShox has also updated its DebonAir spring to be more similar to the DebonAir , with the brand claiming it gives a coil-like feel and is Bottomless-Token ready.RockShox PsyloThe Psylo Gold RC is the only version available aftermarket. - Andy Lloyd / Our MediaThe new RockShox Psylo Gold RC is said to be aimed at all-mountain riding. It sits in similar territory to the brand's current Revelation fork though its not confirmed to be a replacement. Its new 35mm aluminium upper tube platform is said to offer enhanced steering precision and functional stiffness, which should add confidence on more technical descents. The Psylo is only available in black, unlike higher-end RockShox forks. - RockShoxRockShox says the premium bushings lower the breakaway force required to initiate the travel, adding a smooth feel on tough terrain. The mid-range RockShox Psylo Silver RC uses the brand's current Motion Control damper and Solo Air damper, while the low-end Psylo Silver R uses a coil spring.Well likely see these two mountain bike forks featured on budget mountain bikes soon.RockShox Isolator DamperThe new damper takes inspiration from RockShox's race-proven dampers. - RockShoxRockShox says the Psylo Gold RC fork offers premium performance thanks to the new Isolator RC Damper, which will also appear on the Dominion enduro fork.RockShox says the Isolator Damper takes inspiration from its higher-end Charger 3 damper, giving it a three-position compression adjust. The Insulator Damper offers high-end features at an entry-level price. - Andy Lloyd / Our MediaOpen, Pedal and Firm modes can be cycled through using a dial on the fork crown: the Open mode enables oil to pass freely through the damper to absorb big hits; the Pedal mode restricts it to add support; and the Firm mode provides maximum damping force to reduce pedal bob.A new internal floating-piston design is said to keep oil and air from mixing, while a new Rebound Piston uses a dual-flow rebound circuit similar to the Charger 3 damper.Rebound is adjusted using a dial on the bottom-right of the fork. The Rebound Piston is claimed to manage oil flow on compression and rebound strokes, making the fork more predictable in rough terrain.RockShox Charger Race Day 2 DamperRockShox says it has shaved every gram possible from the Charger Race Day 2 Damper. - RockShoxThe new Charger Race Day 2 Damper is said to be the brands lightest yet and offers a two-position compression adjustment. An Open setting is said to eat up the lumps and bumps associated with gravel riding, while a rock solid, sprint-ready lock should add efficiency and remove any bobbing.RockShox DebonAir SpringRockShox says the updated DebonAir Spring offers a smooth and consistent coil-like feel through the stroke and sits high in the travel, making the most of the travel on offer. The brand claims it has found the perfect blend of positive and negative volumes for taller riders and increased mid-stroke support to keep confidence high.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 96 مشاهدة

- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMCane Creek says gravel suspension isn't fit for purpose but its new Invert fork is the 'Goldilocks' solutionCane Creek has released details of its new Invert gravel suspension fork, which it confidently dubs the worlds first gravel fork".Thats quite the tall claim, especially considering the many other available gravel suspension forks. But Cane Creek thinks current options are either too firm or offer too many adjustments that simply arent needed for gravel. As such, the brand reckons the Invert is the 'Goldilocks' solution.Cane Creek will be offering the inverted suspension fork in two guises the Invert SL and Invert CS.The Invert SL is the more minimal and lightweight option, sporting 30mm of travel and weighing a claimed 990g. It will retail for 1,099.99 / $1,099.99.The Invert CS boosts the suspension travel to 40mm and includes a firm mode with a single-click, crown-mounted Climb Switch. The claimed weight increases to 1,113g and the fork will set you back 1,199.99 / $1,199.99.European and Australian pricing is to be confirmed.Unsurprisingly, since it's claiming it as the first, Cane Creek also says the Invert SL is the lightest gravel suspension fork on the market. The Lauf Grit SL trumps it at 960g (actual weight). However, it must be acknowledged that the Grit SLs leaf-spring construction doesnt represent an apples-for-apples comparison.Cane Creek says the Invert fork will be available from the end of June.Rethinking suspensionThe fork was designed to complement many of the current crop of gravel bikes. - Cane CreekCane Creek wants riders to rethink suspension on gravel bikes. The brand believes the current crop either underperform, with polarising looks and no adjustment, or that brands have simply taken a mountain bike fork and shrunk it.Cane Creek says the Invert dampens vibrations with the confidence and control to glide over rough roads. Improved comfort is then a by-product that suspension creates, according to the brand. As such, Cane Creek says the Invert will make your gravel bike the best it can be rather than turn it into something it isnt, such as a mountain bike. The brand says you can ride more demanding trails and it specifically wanted the fork to appeal to riders who typically wouldnt ride with suspension.Although Cane Creek has its eeSilk stems and seatposts, which both provide 20mm of tunable compliance, the brand says neither increase control on the bike, whereas the Invert does. The brand doesnt recommend pairing the Invert fork with the eeSilk stem. The Invert was developed from the ground up, rather than simply shrinking one of its Helm mountain bike fork offerings. Its the first time Cane Creek has made a product from carbon fibre.Cane Creek is targeting those who would typically ride rigid forks on gravel bikes. - Cane CreekThe forks are designed, prototyped and tested in the brands Fletcher, North Carolina facility. Production parts are made in Taiwan before being sent back and assembled in-house.Cane Creek wanted the fork to visually integrate with the bike and considers an MTB-fork lookalike to disrupt the aesthetics. The brand also didnt want the Invert to have lots of adjustability, declaring it to have everything you need and nothing you dont.Once installed, Cane Creek says you simply need to pressurise the fork to 95 per cent of your rider weight. Theres no compression or rebound tuning and the climb switch on the Invert CS is binary its either on or off.Why the inverted design? The Invert is quite unlike any other gravel fork on the market. - Cane CreekDespite Cane Creek being critical of the appearance of other gravel suspension forks, the Invert stands out with its inverted design, which places the stanchions at the forks base.Inverted forks are commonly found on motorbikes (Cane Creek says many of its staff are also passionate motorcycle enthusiasts), with the increased chassis rigidity typically improving handling, particularly when cornering. They are also more sensitive than conventional forks because the suspension oil typically gathers at the bottom of the fork leg, meaning the stanchions, seals and bushes are continuously being lubricated, resulting in smoother performance. The ratio of sprung to unsprung mass also contributes to this sensitivity because a traditional forks lowers are heavier than the uppers.Set your sag and you're ready to go. - Cane CreekCane Creek says the inverted design allows for the lightest possible chassis, in addition to a lower unsprung weight. The brand says gravity keeps the seals and bushing lubricated for smooth operation and the bushing overlap is increased throughout the travel. In addition, the lack of an arch allows for more tyre clearance. Inverted forks also tend to struggle with a lack of torsional stiffness from a cycling perspective. Cane Creek says the shorter travel overcomes this because there isnt a lot of opportunity for the front end to flex. The brand says it has extensively tested the fork.Cane Creek Invert tech specsCarbon is used to get the weight down. - Cane CreekThe forks chassis comprises a carbon fibre crown and steerer bonded to aluminium upper tubes. The steerer dimensions are 1 to 1.5in, in keeping with many gravel bikes. The fork has an integrated crown race and Cane Creek includes its Ancora expander plug and a ZN40 lower headset bearing.Cane Creek acknowledges there are a wider variety of headset standards on gravel bikes than on mountain bikes, but isnt planning on developing any other steerer options for now. Both fork models have a 45mm offset. Cane Creek says it opted for this figure because its in keeping with many other options and should be fairly close to the original offset of the original fork without throwing the bikes geometry off.Cane Creek says if your bike used a rigid fork originally, you can expect the front end to be raised by 20mm and the head tube slackened by a degree. The maximum system weight is 250lb / 113.4kg.There's a guide to keep the hose in place. - Cane CreekThe brake routing is external, with a guide to stop the hose from flapping around. The 30mm-travel Invert SL is claimed to weigh 990g. It has a raw carbon-to-black fade upper with a 425mm axle-to-crown measurement. The 40mm-travel Invert CS is heavier at a claimed 1,113g, sporting an all-matt black upper. The axle-to-crown measurement is boosted to 435mm.You cannot retrospectively change the travel because both forks use different length air springs. All forks are designed around a 12x100mm thru-axle and flat-mount calipers. The minimum disc brake rotor that can be used is 160mm and a 180mm rotor can be used with an adaptor (the part number is BBG0800).The forks have a tyre clearance of 700c x 50mm (measured width with 6mm of clearance either side). The Invert forks come with a two-year warranty. What about servicing? The 12-notch fitting is a neat touch. - Cane CreekCane Creek says many riders are intimidated by suspension servicing, so it wanted to makeservicing as easy as possible. The brand recommends a 50-hour 'splash oil service' (equivalent to a lower-leg service) and a rebuild after 100 hours.A neat touch is that the seal heads use an open-ended 12-notch bottom bracket tool fitting (found on Race Face Cinch, SRAM DUB BSA and Cane Creeks own bottom brackets).Once unscrewed, the service procedure involves draining the oil and wiping everything clean. Each leg requires 5ml of 15wt oil and you then simply retighten the seal heads.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 104 مشاهدة
