Cyclist How to watch La Flèche Wallonne 2024 We have reached the sandwich filling of the Ardennes week: La Flèche Wallonne. The middle child of the Ardennes, La Flèche Wallonne is understated in its nature, but its brutal finale up the Mur de Huy never goes unnoticed. Taking place on Wednesday 17th April, the men’s and women’s Flèches Wallonnes proposes a tough battle through the Ardennais hills. The men’s 199km-long race in the morning will give a teaser of what’s to come for the women’s peloton later in the afternoon. Both races promise star-billing, with defending women’s champion Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) down to start in Huy on Wednesday. The men’s race won’t see its reigning champion return to the Mur de Huy, so the title of La Flèche is truly up for grabs. Two people have been hospitalised after separate collisions involving bicycles and cars in Wicklow and Waterford. In the first collision, a main cyclist was seriously injured on the N11 in Co Wicklow. It happened at 2pm at Junction 11. A spokesperson at the Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending the scene of a road traffic collision on the N11 at Junction 11, Kilpedder, Co. Wicklow, Monday 15th April 2024. The collision occurred at approximately 2:00pm and involved a car and a cyclist.” “The male cyclist has been taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time,” the spokesperson said. No age or approximate age was given, and Gardaí said that no further information is currently available. The spokesperson added: “Lane 1 of the N11 Northbound is currently closed but Lane 2 remains open. Local diversions are in place. Forensic Collision Investigators are attending to conduct an examination.” The second collision happened at around 4.30pm on the Cork Road in Waterford near the main campus of the South East Technological University. A spokesperson at the Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle, which occurred outside a premises on Cork Road, Waterford, this afternoon, Monday 15th April 2024, at approximately 4.30pm.” They added: “The cyclist, a male (20s) was conveyed to University Hospital Waterford for treatment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time. No other injuries were reported at the time. Investigations are ongoing.”
