- IRISHCYCLE.COMFirst ‘Bike Library’ for healthcare staff launched at St James’s Hospital in DublinIreland’s first ‘Bike Library’ for healthcare staff was launched last week at St James’s Hospital campus in Dublin. Bicycle libraries offer a selection of bicycles for people to try for a period of time. The bicycles on offer to try are often cargo bikes or electric bicycles, which have high initial costs. The bike libraries started in schools and have since been rolled out to universities and there’s a plan to roll them out to GAA clubs. The St James’s Bike Library will be open to staff at St James’s and Children’s Health Ireland staff based there as the National Children’s Hospital is set to open next year at St James’s. The initiative is supported by the ServiceNow Community Improvement Fund, which was set up by the software company with the aim “to accelerate global decarbonisation efforts by supporting impactful projects in Ireland.” A spokesperson for St James’s Hospital Dublin said: “With support from ServiceNow, we’re delighted to announce the St James’s/CHI Bike Library — Healthcare’s First Bike Library. This will give staff the opportunity to borrow a range of e-bikes/e-cargo bikes for free for up to three months, encouraging active travel in their daily commute.” Bleeper said: “We’re delighted to be working with St James’s Hospital Dublin on the first Bike Library for healthcare workers in Ireland. Staff can borrow electric bikes and cargo bikes to see how they can be incorporated into their daily travel routines.” “Bleeper is supplying and maintaining the Bike Library fleet, with a variety of bike types available to suit different people’s requirements and circumstances,” the company said.
