Redshifts new Mousetrap SPD-SL pedal adaptors have changed the way I ride my road bike and I love them
The new Redshift Mousetrap pedal adaptors for SPD-SL are the ideal hack for when you need to use your road bike for a quick errand or a ride into town to meet friends. They're also a great solution for when you dont want to arrive and be clomping around in road shoes like Bambi on ice.Released today, the new Mousetraps for SPD-SL follow on from the brilliant SPD Mousetraps introduced earlier this year. Redshift has also launched a new version of the Mousetrap for Look Keo pedals. Whenever Im maintaining my own bikes or setting up a test bike, the final piece of the puzzle is taking it for a few laps around town to check everything is shipshape.Riding single-sided road pedals in non-cycling shoes is treacherous, plus youll never get that proper connection to test gear shifts fully under load. The centre spring-loaded 'trap' section flips up so it can lock into the SPD-SL mechanism. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey On my road bikes, that means needing to put on a pair of road shoes.Thats something of a pain, but thankfully Redshift has come to the rescue. Push the lip on the platform into the pedal and push the trap down to lock the Mousetrap in place. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey The design is simple the large nylon-infused composite platform has a spring-loaded centre section. This works much like a mousetrap; you simply lift the centre, then hook the front of the spring-loaded trap into the front of the pedal and push down. It clicks into place and forms a large, flat, secure platform. The Mousetrap adaptors for SPD-SL are compatible with Shimano's SPD-SL pedals. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey The textured surface grips non cycling shoes well. The platforms have embedded magnets, too, so when not in use they clip together in a pocket-sized package. Once pushed down, the Mousetrap makes for a solid, secure platform. Warren Rossiter / Kelsey These SPD-SL Mousetraps now sit alongside the mountain bike versions in my garage/workshop and have become a time-saving essential when working on bikes, running errands or just heading out for coffee.Like the SPD version, the Redshift Mousetrap SPD-SL and Look-Keo compatible Mousetraps are priced at 54.99 / $59.99 a pair.

Reserve 48|53 GR Gravel Wheelset on Test
Wide, proven and worry-free, the 48|53 GR sees Reserve apply a mullet approach to gravel, with different rim depths front and rear, wide Hollow Hook rims, DT Swiss hubs and conventional steel spokes. Superlatives arent the goal; balance is. The question is whether a well-rounded package is enough to win our big gravel wheel group test. This wheelset was tested as part of our big 2026 gravel wheel group test you can find an overview of all the wheels on test here.Reserve 48|53 GR | 1,422 g | 2,799 | Manufacturer websiteReserve are hardly newcomers to the wheel market, with close ties to Cervlo, Santa Cruz and Cannondale. The Reserve 52|63 model already secured our coveted Best Buy award in our big 2024 carbon road wheel group test. Now, the Reserve 48|53 GR aim to repeat that success on gravel, combining a mullet rim setup, Hollow Hook technology and proven DT Swiss components. Instead of pursuing a radical concept, Reserve focus on a balanced mix of control, durability and speed. No Gimmicks The Reserve Carbon Gravel Wheelset in DetailThe Reserve 48|53 GR prioritises control and tire volume over record-breaking weight figures, tipping the scales at 1,422 g. This puts it comfortably in the middle of the test field. The rims follow a familiar aero principle: a 48 mm deep front and a 53 mm deep rear, intended to combine stable steering with aerodynamic efficiency. With a 30 mm internal width and 44 mm external width, theyre also among the widest rims in the entire test field. Our 45 mm Continental Competition control tyre expands to 47.7 mm, providing plenty of grip. The tire is held in place by Reserves Hollow Hook design, featuring a hollow bead hook thats approved for pressures up to 5.5 bar and tyres between 40 and 57 mm wide. Two depths A 48 mm front rim and 53 mm rear are intended to combine front-end stability with rear-wheel efficiency.Hollow Hook The hollow bead hook is approved for pressures up to 5.5 bar and provides plenty of flexibility when choosing tires.Grip guaranteed With a 30 mm internal rim width, the 45 mm Continental Competition tire grows to 47.7 mm.Reserve stick to tried-and-tested components for the spokes and hubs, using 24 conventional steel spokes per wheel. These offer more compliance than carbon spokes and should be easy to replace while traveling. Theyre laced to DT Swiss 180 hubs with Ratchet EXP and SINC ceramic bearings, delivering the reliability and freehub sound DT Swiss riders know well.Matte carbon and gold decals keep the look understated, while the wide, substantial rims lend the Reserve wheels a premium presence. As tested, with DT Swiss 180 hubs, they cost 2,799. Switching to DT Swiss 350 hubs brings the price down to 1,799, at the cost of a higher weight of 1,528 g. Reserve back the rims with a lifetime warranty for original owners, plus discounted replacement if you crash.Swiss heart With Ratchet EXP technology and ceramic bearings, the DT Swiss 180 hubs are among the most proven options on the market.Classic spokes The 24 steel spokes per wheel provide compliance and should be easy to replace wherever you go.Confidence Is Everything The Reserve 48|53 GR on TestOut on our test route, the Reserve quickly proves that its built to perform in just about any conditions. On the flat, they hold their speed reliably and feel genuinely efficient, even if they cant quite match the NEWMEN. Acceleration is more middle-of-the-pack, lacking the explosive response of the CADEX, while the wider tyre profile also takes away a little liveliness. The Reserve wheelset really comes into its own in corners and on trails. The steering feels balanced and predictable rather than playful, which makes it the ideal choice for fast gravel corners and inspiring confidence at every turn. On the trail, the wide tires provide plenty of control, and even when things get rougher, the Reserve remains precise and holds its line reliably.Comfort is very good for a performance wheelset. The steel spokes provide noticeably more compliance than most carbon spokes in the test, while the stiff rims maintain a reassuringly direct feel. The result is a wheelset that strikes a convincing balance between comfort and control without sacrificing too much speed.Finding the Balance The Reserve 48|53 GR in the Wind TunnelOut on the course, the Reserve impresses with its all-round ability, but how much aero is there in the carbon rim? It certainly feels like a lot, as the Reserve rides very efficiently and, for us, is clearly among the best in the test field on the flat. The wind tunnel only partly backs this up: with a rider at 36 km/h, the Reserve needs 0.4 W less than our reference wheelset, the DT Swiss GRC 1100. That equates to 3.0 seconds over 40 km, so its no aero miracle, but it has no measurable disadvantage either. The tire offers one possible explanation: we always measure the system of wheel and tire, and on a 30 mm internal rim width the 45 mm tire builds up noticeably wider at 47.7 mm.Conclusions about the Reserve 48|53 GRBalance is the Reserve 48|53 GRs greatest strength. Reassuring handling, plenty of grip and impressive comfort sit alongside the efficiency fast gravel riding demands, built on wide Hollow Hook rims, proven DT Swiss components and versatile tire compatibility. Lighter and more explosive wheelsets exist in this test, but none is as predictable or easy to control across such a range of gravel. Add a lifetime rim warranty and discounted crash replacement, and the 48|53 GR earns our Best Buy award with ease.TopsOutstanding all-round performanceHolds high speeds effortlesslyConfidence-inspiring handling in corners and on trailsHollow Hook rims and lifetime warrantyFlopsAverage accelerationMore information at reservewheels.com.The Test FieldThis wheelset was tested as part of our big 2026 gravel wheel group test you can find an overview of all the wheels on test here. All wheels on test: CADEX Max GXR | DT Swiss GRC 1100 DICUT 50 | ENVE G SES 6.7 Pro | Fulcrum Sharq GR | HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD | Leeze CH 60 PRO GX | Light Bicycle AG48 | NEWMEN Streem G.62 CS | OQUO RP50LTD CS | Reserve 48|53 GR | Roval Terra Aero CLX | Vision SC 45 i30 | Zipp 303 XPLR SWDer Beitrag Reserve 48|53 GR Gravel Wheelset on Test erschien zuerst auf GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine.

Leeze CH 60 PRO GX Gravel Wheelset on Test
Deep, light and affordable, the CH 60 PRO GX sees Leeze combine 60 mm deep carbon rims, carbon spokes and proprietary hubs at a price well below most rivals. Only one wheelset in the test weighs less. The question is whether that much performance for the money can hold its own in our big gravel wheel group test. This wheelset was tested as part of our big 2026 gravel wheel group test you can find an overview of all the wheels on test here.Leeze CH 60 PRO GX | 1,323 g | 1,599 | Manufacturer websiteLeeze are a German brand from the Mnsterland region, offering deep-section rims and carbon spokes at competitive prices through their PRO range. The CH 60 PRO GX combines 60 mm deep hookless rims with Sapim carbon spokes and proprietary hubs. Its clearly aimed at racers who want plenty of performance for their money without compromising on weight. That makes the Leeze both some of the lightest and most affordable wheelsets in this test, and out on the course it quickly prove that this approach works.Deep and Light The Leeze Carbon Gravel Wheelset in DetailThe Leeze CH 60 PRO GX is clearly designed for racing, as its 60 mm deep rims make immediately obvious. Both front and rear are among the deepest in the test. Despite this, the Leeze tips our scales at just 1,323 g, making it the second-lightest wheelset on test, although somewhat heavier than Leezes claimed 1,280 g. The rims measure 28 mm internally and 35 mm externally, and our 45 mm Continental Competition control tire grows to 46.2 mm at the front and 46.5 mm at the rear, protruding visibly beyond them. The hookless rims are optimized for tires from 40 to 45 mm wide and approved for pressures up to 3.5 bar.Going deep At 60 mm deep front and rear, the Leeze have some of the deepest rims in the test.Hookless The hookless rims are approved for pressures up to 3.5 bar and optimised for tires measuring 4045 mm wide.Slim waist At just 35 mm wide externally, the rims look almost old-school when paired with wide tires.Leeze use 18 Sapim CX carbon spokes per wheel, laced to their proprietary PRO hubs with a pawl-based freehub mechanism. Our test wheels use standard bearings, although you can choose from several ceramic bearing options for a relatively modest additional charge. The freehub has a slightly shrill sound, although its still pleasantly muted when new. Visually, the Leeze are nicely understated, with their relatively narrow rims lending them a slightly traditional appearance. At just 1,599, theyre among the cheapest wheels in the test, although youd never guess it from their appearance. Despite the low price and high-quality components, Leeze also offer lifetime crash replacement alongside the statutory warranty.Carbon for everyone The 18 Sapim CX carbon spokes per wheel come at a remarkably competitive price.In-house design The proprietary PRO hub uses a pawl freehub mechanism that produces a slightly shrill but relatively muted sound.Smooth Operator The Leeze CH 60 PRO GX on TestThe Leeze makes its appetite for speed obvious from the very first pedal strokes. Acceleration is excellent and thoroughly entertaining, with low weight and high stiffness combining to deliver a light, direct and efficient ride. On tarmac in particular, it ranks among the best wheelsets in the test. The stiffness also remains well balanced: while the CH 60 PRO GX is slightly stiffer, and therefore harsher, than the Roval, it never takes things to extremes. In terms of handling, the Leeze feels more like conventional road racing wheelset adapted for gravel, and we mean that as a compliment. It turns in directly but is still forgiving enough to negotiate slippery corners and trails with confidence. On rough terrain, youll need to pay a little more attention and choose your line carefully. Nevertheless, theres still enough compliance for the wheels to track the ground rather than constantly skipping across it. For a racing wheelset, comfort is surprisingly good, although the wide tires undoubtedly do much of the work. Overall, the Leeze delivers a lively, efficient and well-rounded ride that successfully combines road racing responsiveness with genuine gravel capability.A Close Call? The Leeze CH 60 PRO GX in the Wind TunnelOn the road, the Leeze impresses with lively handling and an entertaining ride. But how much aerodynamic performance do its 60 mm deep rims deliver? Subjectively, quite a lot. The Leeze feels exceptionally efficient, produces a noticeable sail effect and seems on a par with the NEWMEN, although its high stiffness undoubtedly adds to the sensation of speed. The wind tunnel largely confirms this impression. With a rider on board at 36 km/h, the Leeze requires 3.1 W less than our reference wheelset, the DT Swiss GRC 1100, equivalent to a 22.3-second advantage over 40 km, though it remains just within the measurement tolerance. Statistically, thats not a measurable advantage, but the riding experience and wind tunnel results align closely. Alongside the deep rims, the tire may help explain the result. We always measure wheel and tire as a complete system, and the Continental Competition keeps a nicely compact profile on the relatively narrow Leeze rims. Conclusions about the Leeze CH 60 PRO GXFew wheelsets in this test offer as much speed for the money as the Leeze CH 60 PRO GX. Low weight, impressive acceleration and a road bike-like ride make it a lot of fun on gravel, and its deep rims back that up with convincing wind tunnel results. It misses out on an award by the narrowest of margins, not through any real weakness, but because it never quite leads in a single discipline. For fast racing on 40 to 45 mm tires, 1,599 buys one of the smartest choices in the test.TopsLightweight and livelyBalanced, road-bike-like rideExcellent value for moneyLifetime crash replacementFlopsRims slightly narrow for wide gravel tiresRough trails require careful line choiceMore information at leeze.de.The Test FieldThis wheelset was tested as part of our big 2026 gravel wheel group test you can find an overview of all the wheels on test here. All wheels on test: CADEX Max GXR | DT Swiss GRC 1100 DICUT 50 | ENVE G SES 6.7 Pro | Fulcrum Sharq GR | HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD | Leeze CH 60 PRO GX | Light Bicycle AG48 | NEWMEN Streem G.62 CS | OQUO RP50LTD CS | Reserve 48|53 GR | Roval Terra Aero CLX | Vision SC 45 i30 | Zipp 303 XPLR SWDer Beitrag Leeze CH 60 PRO GX Gravel Wheelset on Test erschien zuerst auf GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine.

HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD Gravel Wheelset on Test
Wide, light and fast, the 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD sees HUNT push gravel wheel design forward, with a front rim almost as wide as the tire it carries, carbon spokes and ceramic bearings. Brand-new yet already race-proven, it sets out to show where gravel wheels are heading. The question is whether that vision is enough to win our big gravel wheel group test. This wheelset was tested as part of our big 2026 gravel wheel group test you can find an overview of all the wheels on test here.HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD | 1,335 g | 3,299 | Manufacturer websiteFounded in West Sussex in 2015, HUNT have become one of the wheel markets fastest-rising names in little more than a decade. The 5AM Gravel Limitless marks the British brands new gravel racing range, and although deliveries wont begin until December 2026, HUNT say it already has an impressive season behind it: victory at Gravel Mxico and podium finishes at Unbound, SBT GRVL and the US Gravel Nationals. Its racing concept centers on aerodynamic efficiency, pairing a deep, exceptionally wide front rim with a narrower rear.Early Bird The HUNT Carbon Gravel Wheelset in DetailExtreme width and low weight rarely go together, but the HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD combines both. Its front rim measures 54 mm deep and a remarkable 45 mm wide, yet at 1,335 g on our scales, its among the lightest wheelsets in the test. The secret is HUNTs Limitless technology, which sandwiches a polymer core between layers of carbon to build width without unnecessary weight. The rear rim is more conventional, at 49 mm deep and 38 mm wide. Both are hookless with a 27 mm internal width, and our 45 mm Continental Competition control tire measures 46.0 mm at the front and 45.9 mm at the rear.Broad shoulders With 45 mm external width, the front rim is almost perfectly flush with the tire.Limitless A polymer core sandwiched between carbon layers is designed to provide extra width without additional weight.Thick lip The 9 mm wide front rim wall is intended to protect against pinch flats.HUNT use 20 VONOA carbon spokes with titanium ends on each wheel, whereby the nipples are completely concealed inside the rims. Theyre laced to 48 teeth H_Ratchet hubs on both sides. Our test wheels feature CeramicSpeed Alpha bearings. The freehub isnt excessively loud straight out of the box, although it already has a slightly shrill edge to its sound. Visually, the glossy rims look premium, but the large Limitless and 5AM Gravel decals are anything but understated. Wed also have preferred black metallic hub components rather than the rather loud finish. At 3,299, the HUNT is among the more expensive wheelsets in this test. However, the manufacturer provides a three-year warranty and lifetime free crash replacement for original owners through its H_CARE programme.Invisible The nipples of the carbon spokes are concealed inside the rims.Double engagement The H_Ratchet hubs use a 48-tooth ratchet on both sides and run on ceramic bearings.A New Benchmark The HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD on TestIt doesnt take long for the HUNT to establish itself among the best wheelsets in the test. Acceleration, efficiency and handling are excellent across the board, and stiffness sits slightly above average, a balance that feels ideally suited to gravel and makes the wheelset respond almost as directly as a road racing set. The benefit is clearest on climbs, where every pedal stroke turns into noticeable forward momentum. In corners, the HUNT wheelset is exceptionally direct without taking things to the extremes, as the CADEX wheels do, for example. Theres just enough forgiveness for gravel, and it invites you to lean further and carry more speed through every turn without ever feeling out of control. On trails, the HUNT is just as impressive. Its stiffness suits roots and rough sections well, even though the tires dont spread particularly wide, and where other wheelsets force you to stop pedaling and roll through obstacles, it often lets you keep the power on. Comfort is slightly above average despite the carbon spokes, and while the Roval rides a touch smoother, HUNT have found a convincing balance.Wider, Lighter, Faster? The HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD in the Wind TunnelOut on the course, the HUNT excelled everywhere. The question is whether its exceptionally wide front rim delivers on HUNTs aerodynamic promises too. On feel alone, it ranks alongside the NEWMEN as the most efficient wheelset in the field. The wind tunnel goes further. With a rider on board at 36 km/h, the HUNT needs 5.0 W less than our DT Swiss GRC 1100 reference wheelset, a 36.4-second advantage over 40 km and well beyond the measurement tolerance. No wheelset in the test is faster. The likely reason lies at the front: because we measure wheel and tire as a complete system, the 45 mm wide front rim, almost flush with the 46 mm tire, gives the airflow a clean transition. Conclusions about the HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UDCompleteness is what sets the HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD apart. Light, stiff and quick to accelerate, it handles brilliantly in corners and on trails, balances comfort well and posted the biggest aerodynamic gain of any wheelset in the wind tunnel. Only an increasingly shrill freehub and its bold graphics count against it. At 3,299, or 2,899 with stainless steel bearings, its the best carbon gravel wheelset we tested, and it takes our Best in Test award on merit.TopsLightweight, stiff and livelyConfidence-inspiring handling in corners and on trailsOnly wheelset with a measurable aerodynamic advantage in the wind tunnelLifetime free crash replacementFlopsFreehub becomes increasingly shrill over timeLarge graphics detract from the clean appearanceMore information at huntbikewheels.com.The Test FieldThis wheelset was tested as part of our big 2026 gravel wheel group test you can find an overview of all the wheels on test here. All wheels on test: CADEX Max GXR | DT Swiss GRC 1100 DICUT 50 | ENVE G SES 6.7 Pro | Fulcrum Sharq GR | HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD | Leeze CH 60 PRO GX | Light Bicycle AG48 | NEWMEN Streem G.62 CS | OQUO RP50LTD CS | Reserve 48|53 GR | Roval Terra Aero CLX | Vision SC 45 i30 | Zipp 303 XPLR SWDer Beitrag HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD Gravel Wheelset on Test erschien zuerst auf GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine.
